must add my 2c to Peter and STN, seedier stores are a rich haunt of good liquor in the States in my experience also.
i can't remember most names but a lot of the caffeinated malt stuff in the States you stumble across is good, the higher ABV Sparks in the big cans are a good livener.
i am going to have to sit on the fence wrt them and bucky therefore, as legendary as bucky is.
mentioned upthread, and a different sort of booze, but the first time i tried Everclear: tremendous! roof of mouth job. enhanced cuz some Indiana redneck had given me the bottle and pointed out (this was in the far north of IN, very near the Michigan border) you couldn't get it at the shops over the state line.
apparently vast areas of the south - many counties in some states - are formally dry.
do any American Dissensians know much more of this?
i found out recently and it gobsmacked me. IIRC when i say formally dry, i mean no sales anywhere at all, and not even for just Sundays or whatever. anywhere. couldn't believe it.
(well, i mean, i can, obviously.)
apparently i believe a lot of local authorities can and do opt out but at the county HQ level, they try to retain it.
barmy.
