my take:

only way sanctions work is if they're so extreme they prevent russia from continuing the war in the next few weeks

which seems unlikely (hopefully I'm wrong)

it seems just as possible that sanctions create support for Putin and ultimately strengthen his routine locally

at the same time we risk the ukraine turning into Chechnya, russia into iran and the global economy into a stagflationary depression

since we're doing predictions, i think it's going to turn out to be a real disaster, a huge bombardment of the cities by the russians, followed by a long and grinding ukranian insurgency with a load of backing from the west. crimes on all sides, all the dirt of war, lots of suffering russians and ukranians, a lot of refugees in neighboring countries, and it's going to go on for years.

this is based on knowing basically nothing about any of this
