Did you see that jacket that Putin was wearing the other day? It looked like a completely standard jacket to me but allegedly it's by a designer of which I was unaware called Loro Piana who makes what appear to utterly bog standard clothes at completely obscene prices. That's the kinda thing I don't get at all.

In fact let's play a game, see who can guess the price of this "sweater jacket" by Piana from their website?

One thing that amuses me often is that manly men hate to wear pink. This occurred to me just now cos I was buying a bag to transport a laptop in in Fnac just now and the guy realised it was for a girl and said "we have it in pink too".

Although you also get the subversion of that, like old casuals wearing pink / pastel designer sportswear or whatever.

a while back i decided to only wear one type of sweatpants and one type of sweater forever, just some basic, generic model from cotton. i would look exactly the same every day, the same generic blue or black sports outfit, no stripes, no motives, no brands. i thought it would somehow be liberating but actually now that i look back on it i think i was going through a depression.
Hmmm, I seem to be gradually becoming one of those people who basically wears variations on the same outfit every day (Uniqlo polo and zipped hoodie in different dark colours, straight dark blue jeans from Next) and just buys more of the same things when one lot wears out, but I think that's the impact of parenthood and lockdown more than anything more worrying.

You do get that but not everyone can cross that line - I remember a shopkeeper thinking I would be genuinely annoyed because he gave me a pink lighter.

Is NYC ready to dress for success again?

This is one of the most ridiculous "news" items I've seen recently.

An opinionated man is disgusted by casual clothing choices and offended by stretch fabric:

"We make a contribution to the visual landscape around us, we are part of the design"

It seems the citizens of New York should dress nicely so as not to violate his aesthetic sensibilities

I agree with him completely: the inaesthetic is offensive and people should feel morally obliged to titivate themselves in the same way that they feel obliged to wear deodorant.

What a shame that standards have dropped so far in the past century:

Granted, I did turn up to Dissensus drinks in a pair of tennis-ball fluorescent yellow shorts but my objective was to maximise psychological damage so I don't feel that undermines my point.

I occasionally feel like I should dress a lot better and start googling men's fashion. And then my enthusiasm quickly peters out because I can't help but feel spending as little as 60 quid on a jumper is money I could spend on drugs and books.

But when you I someone really well dressed I appreciate the effort and money they've put in and I envy them and think yes you should dress like you're being photographed at London fashion week.

Who gets to be the arbiter of what constitutes an aesthetic "visual landscape"? Maybe some people want to view a sea of grey shapeless trackie bottoms?
