Apparently, heard in my village, "Stourbridge is Wavey". Well it does have a swimming baths I thought to myself.

i stopped by a library in richfield today. the upper floor consisted of various beige rectangles. it wasn’t quite empty but the vastness of the space made it feel that way. behind the information desk in the middle were two grey haired librarians conversing in the most listless tone i’ve ever heard. i couldn’t make out what they were saying, beyond this: “i heard it’s actually worse for your car.” “the gristle?” “yeah.”

I usually walk the streets with headphones jammed in my ears so I miss out on overhearing conversations and whenever my phone dies or whatever and I'm forced to go in the ear-nude I'm reminded of how interesting it can be. (It can also be bloody tedious, which is when the headphones are life savers.)

When I first moved to London ten years back I remember picking up on how loudly people would speak in public, on their phone on a bus, to their kids on the street. The most obvious explanation would be big city anonymity, you don’t care who’s around because they likely don’t know you. The other sad thing was that I grew up in a city where people couldn’t trust each other, so conversations stay at low volume in public. Then my other theory is the english are generally entitled, self-aggrandising, inconsiderate wankers who need to impose and take up space and be seen and heard at all times because they’re always terrified that maybe they don’t actually matter

I don't really notice that as a common feature of London life specifically but maybe it's cos my headphones are in?

I've often thought, sitting on the tube, listening to two idiots talking loudly, that this must be exactly how annoying it is when i'm talking loudly to someone on the tube

I thought English people have more of a reputation for repressing themselves in public and sneering/silently fuming at anybody who talks loudly?

its always a funny scenario that one, playing to the crowd or getting self conscious about strangers. Looking around the carriage to check the people youre bitching about arent there

English mothers of toddlers in hackney are the loudest people on the planet and way way too liberal with their parenting. Listen to me 2 seconds your child is a dick ok and the reason your child is a dick is because YOU are a dick

I staggered into the new year feeling weary and disenchanted and unable to commit to a single goal. That didn’t mean I wasn’t busy, especially at work. There was always another cost to drive down or an efficiency to optimise.

Hi Luke
By day, I operate as a body language analyst and interpersonal skills trainer. Indeed, this sounds intricate but it‘s mostly related to observing and decoding. Have you ever consider that more than 50% of our interaction is unspoken? During the weekend, I‘m alternatively unraveling historical mysteries or immersed in an mystery room.
What about you? What you fill your hours?
