can't anyone put out a fucking funky compilation which isn't full of tunes that came out 2 years ago. When its a genre full of unreleased classics, why they draw for the released ones is beyond me

its not really beyond you

why do you think they're unreleased?
given what you know about funky.

who knows...
i missed a lot of the stuff that's on that funky comp so I'm more then happy it's coming out, especially since a lot of them were vinyl only (at least that i could find, and i'm not fucking around with ukfunky.com to buy things) and sold out awhile ago.

i think most of the soul jazz comps are really good. i've bought them all very happily.

i know what you mean and agree in a way, but in the scheme of thing, these tracks are known to a tiny (tiny) number of people. this comp might not appeal to people who are super into funky, but it's a good primer/intro for the 99.999999% of the rest of people out there.

Exciting looking release sheets.

Heaps of new Seven tracks, new thing by Data, a Kryptic Minds remix (which is rather Loefah-esq, if I do say so), Jack Sparrows LP...

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like a lot of the soul jazz output is producer's offcuts. I seldom hear anything they put out that is anything like the top of the producer's output apart from a few years ago with the misty winter/earth a run red/ladybug 12s. Constantly underwhelmed by their output within the 'bass continuum'

Agree with this mostly but like mms says some of Future Bass is good, particularly the Untold which has a 12" release as well

The Double Helix (LHF) tune "Base 2 Dark" on the Always Everything mix is so great. Can't wait for the release of that new LHF EP!
There are some great tunes on that mix, too, lots of recent & upcoming releases from Hessle, Deep Medi, Hyperdub, Hotflush among others

Dubstep progenitors Horsepower Productions are set to return on November 29 with their first new album in six years. It’s called Quest For The Sonic Bounty.

These days essentially a solo project of founder member Ben Garner AKA Benny Ill, with some contributions from newcomer Jay King, Horsepower have been fairly quiet since the release of 2004′s To The Rescue, and it seemed like the name might have been retired completely before the emergence last year of two new 12″s, ‘Damn It’/'Kingstep’ (artwork detail pictured above) and ‘Exersising’ (a Lee Perry version issued on Adrian Sherwood’s legendary On-U-Sound imprint).

To The Rescue, and its flawless predecessor In Fine Style (2002), stand as two of the most original and satisfying full-lengths to come out of the UK garage explosion, and helped bridge the gap between the silken, poppy sound of early 2-step and the roughness of grime and then dubstep, drawing inspiration not just from heavy-duty reggae but also techno, breakbeat and jungle (former members Nassis and Lev Jnr were both heavily involved in Nico’s No U-Turn).

Quest For The Sonic Bounty will see release via Tempa, the same label that brought us both previous Horsepower LPs. It includes special edits of ‘Damn It’ and ‘Kingstep’ and the aforementioned remix of Lee Perry, and will be released on 3×12″ vinyl, CD and digital. The full tracklist is below; more info when we have it.

Tracklist:
1. Rain
2. Mexican Slayride
3. 22
4. Water
5. Kingstep (LP Version)
6. 18th Special
7. Damn It (Extended LP Version)
8. Lee Perry: Exercising (Horsepower Remix)
9. Poison Wine

Good to see LV's Crossfire getting a release on that Soul Jazz comp, wicked tune, surprised noone else put it out before tbh (or did they?)

Edit - looks like Soul Jazz are putting it out as a seperate 12 - good shout.
