    the long blondes

Russell Senior of Pulp appears on a Long Blondes single. (Not that Senior's post-Pulp career has been much cop--Venini were weak.)

    the long blondes

I like the Nathan Fake album, but not as much as I love the Long Blondes--and if people are talking retro, and they are, then the Nathan Fake LP is just as retro. I saw the Long Blondes second (or maybe third) show totally by accident as me and a friend were drinking in the pub where they were...

guardian article on the death of british black music

"Mike Pickering. If it's possible to be very white, he was. And in fact I think he was the 'M' in M-People." C'mon dude, it was M for Manchester! Search for the hero inside yourself!

guardian article on the death of british black music

The problem with that article is that just about every point about how the industry works could be applied to indie, or white (as the terms are used fairly interchangably throughout) music as well. Tons of post-Doherty Libertines-alike bands have been quietly dropped for example. Or their...

    Pop Psychology.

I also remember him saying that he never got into The Beatles bcz they seemed like they were for girls whereas he could put up with The Rolling Stones bcz they were for boys! The Beatles leave me cold. I think it's because I think of them as being like a music hall act.

next grime mc to get a deal?

Those type of chart positions are very bad for anyone trying to work at chart level - ie anyone signed by a major. People can get dropped for not getting into the the top ten, never mind the top twenty. Not getting into the top twenty is the equivalent of not getting into the top forty ten...

next grime mc to get a deal?

Which is why he wouldn't get signed: 22 Kano Typical Me Mar 2005 25 Kano Nite Nite Sep 2005 Those type of chart positions are why grime isn't getting signed. If it had at least one act as big as Franz or Fiddy or whoever, then maybe there could be a lot of people riding on coat tails but...

    Hauntology

Wow! is there any way to see that? And in regards to DOA. I often wonder what became of Terry Sylvester of Terry and the Idiots - the real face of punk, number one complaint = that TV finishes too early.

'The Monstrous Soul' by Lustmord - built around samples from 'The Night of the Demon' "Hounds of Love" by Kate Bush begins w/a Night of the Demon sample as well, dunnit.

    Hauntology

"there has to be more of a precise definition. otherwise it just becomes anything about ghosts or memory. which is entirely too vague and largely meaningless." OK, to bring it back in a little... I was thinking on the way to work this morning that one of the reasons for the Ghostbox/UK...

    brit award nominations

No surprises, except maybe the Arcade Fire. And the fact that the public obv. can't be trusted to vote on awards on theit own anymore, they need additional Brit 'panellists.'
