The Books

loved The Lemon of Pink and what it seems that Lost and Safe, more abrasive and challenging, will ultimately come to seem even better to me. they do seem like a group out in a limb to an extent - who are their musical neighbours? Asa Chang and Junray? Lucky Dragons?

    Oooh you handsome devil!

as little as i see of any of the cultural stuff i'm interested in on TV, BBC's Culture show still dragged out that old trainer fetish/collector thing for another sketch last week and, while i sighed at having to watch that one more time, i knew i'd still have to watch it countless times again...

    Oooh you handsome devil!

there's something just incredibly depressing about the dearth of real style in all areas of music now, though. Tricky was a one off, a true original in every aspect and maybe my last major musical crush (until justin timberlake but that's much more predictable). Roll Deep look pretty awful in...

well, who said it was cutting edge? it doesn't have to be cutting edge to be good or great; at any rate i think it's mighty OVERRATED.

http://partners.nytimes.com/library/books/080500ideas-irony.html "Irony, he wrote, is a corrosive, world-weary habit of mind, "a quiet refusal to believe in the depth of relationships, the sincerity of motivation, or the truth of speech -- especially earnest speech.... ...irony in Mr. Purdy's...

    best writing on irony?

Rilke is magnificent on irony - but i'm not completely sure it fits in with our modern take on the word. "Irony: Don't let yourself be controlled by it, especially during uncreative moments. When you are fully creative, try to use it, as one more way to take hold of life. Used purely, it too is...

    Carl Craigs recent music

His Throbbing Gristle remixes were great, proper old school mixes (by which i mean beefed up and extended and not much more - i approve) and the remix of cesaria evora's "angola" is truly wonderful. The Tres Demented EP is great, especially "Demented Drums" and there IS some pretty great stuff...
