I'd noticed a slight 80s pop element on the last couple of EPs but he really amps it up here. That's not a problem for me but I can see it alienating a lot of people.
The title track really does have a Godspeed/emo post-rock bombast to it.
Think the dialogue is bit overdone here. That...
Just got the WM-D3 I bought. The sound quality is phenomenal but the play and stop buttons are a bit finicky. I also bought a D6 (sadly not a D6C). If that shows up before Christmas, I'll give them both to her and she can use whichever one she likes best.
Posted my (real) list yesterday:

We read On the Black Hill in school, I think just because I grew up in Hereford and it's set around there. It was one of those things that seems incredibly creepy when you're a kid but I'm not sure it would have remotely the same affect on me now. It would probably just make me homesick.
I keep getting outbid. Also, a lot of the sellers won't ship to Canada.
I did score one of these, though:

Still hoping to score a D6C in the next few days. Wish me luck.
I wasn't so sure about "Walking to Hollywood". Kinda seemed like a straight-up WG Sebald pastiche (right down to the muddy black-and-white photographs) and I couldn't quite see the point of that. "The Book of Dave" is pretty amazing, though. As ambitious as "Umbrella", in its own way.
I can see...
I liked Umbrella a lot. I get the feeling Self is pretty unfashionable but I like all of his short stories and a couple of his novels (How the Dead Live, The Book of Dave) a lot.

Cheers, there were a couple I missed there. Will be watching carefully. £400 seems to be the going buy-it-now rate for a really minty, boxed one but I should be able to get a decent one for a fraction of that, fingers crossed.
Sheeeit. Anyone got a spare one of these they can sell me? Or any suggestion of a more recent equivalent I might be able to find at an affordable price?
I want to buy a (preferably) new cassette Walkman and I'm looking for advice.
My wife has this cool, compact stereo set-up on her office desk where she plugs her computer, an iPod, a Numark portable record player, and an old Walkman into a nice pair of monitor speakers. The advantage of the...
I've noticed hints of an increasing interest in Socialism on the American left in recent years but I think it has more to do with the extreme right-wing constantly slinging accusations of socialism at the Obama administration. This seems to have normalized the idea of socialism for many...
The Left Hand of Darkness is incredible as are The Dispossessed and Planet of Exile. Some of my favourite SF. There's a great deal more to her than Earthsea, that's for sure!
I like the fourth Earthsea book but then I'm currently reading (and enjoying) Heretics of Dune. For anyone who like Earthsea, I highly recommend Patricia McKillip.
How did you feel about that? I've been a Fall fan since 1987 but I found that book unreadable and embarrassing. I think I got halfway through the first chapter. Does it get better?
I'm a massive Husker Du and Sugar fan but I've never been able to get into solo bob. Maybe this will inspire me to give it another try. Anyway, I feel your pain - I'm a big Warehouse lover, which tends to get me laughed at by indie rock snobs.
As far as I know, The Dreaming came before Hounds of Love. I've never heard of this self-titled album before. What's on it?
Edit: Is this it?
