    General election 2024

The Tories just got absolutely stuffed. They can just laugh them off. But having won a miraculous landslide with half a million fewer votes than Corbyn's 2019 debacle, they need to be thinking about the next election already. I might put a bet down on Reform.

    General election 2024

It'll be interesting to see what the effect ID requirement had. The Tories' plan of vote suppression seems to have reduced the big Labour majorities in the inner cities, but that made no real difference because Labour obviously won those seats anyway. It doesn't seem to have had much effect...

    what are you reading now?

Currently rereading The Dispossessed and have just reached one of my favourite passages... "However, he never missed the one course he was attending, Gvarab's lecture-group on Frequency and Cycle. Gvarab was old enough that she often wandered and maundered. Attendance at her lectures was small...

    Keir Starmer

Hate is too strong a reaction to Keir Starmer. He just sucks all the hope and joy out of life. He makes you never want to get out of bed ever again. I was going to say he's like John Major, but he's well to the right of John Major, and at least John Major is a proper cricket fan. Keir Starmer...

When Do We Stop Finding New Music?

I posted the article because it supports a common perception: that a lot of people's music tastes begin – and end – with what they listened to as a teenager, when music was important to them. Of course what he says doesn't apply to me  But having said that, post punk (which is what I...

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

I was responding to the CAN-SG statement, which you posted as though it was significant. I'm not interested in discussing what I wrote because, as far as I'm concerned, there isn't anything to discuss, and it would just make me cross again. But since you don't want to either, that's grand (y)...

The Republican War on Transgender People, Drag Queens, and Queerness in General

Of course that's the only part of the article you've bothered to comment on, and of course you take what the CAN-SG say at face value. As to the protest (because it was in bold): this was a primarily peaceful if loud demonstration of the "nothing about us without us" kind. Yes, it seems some...
