Zhao thinks Chic is 'a-ight'.
i believe in a two-song solution, both can co-exist peacefully alongside each other.![]()
Zhao thinks Chic is 'a-ight'.
and i think your fondness for this Chic comes only from familiarity, due to arbitrarily having grown up with it in a rhythmically impoverished, musically under-developed, above equator location; and because you were under exposed to the VASTLY superior, in every way, universe of classic pop and dance music from down south.
where as i spent my childhood in the cultural vacuum of "communist" China, and thus can see the merits, and lack of merits, of things much more clearly and objectively.

haha, way to convert people to your cause zhao
you all listen to this. and compare to American 70s disco.
the only reason you're here in this thread is to tell everyone they're stupid.
ah ok, so you're here to tell everyone they're ignorant and prejudiced. thats better
like i said, truth needs directly speaking sometimes.... when the truth comes out about your rhythm-deficient culture.
Sorry i might be getting the wrong end of the stick here but are you labelling the whole of western musical culture as rhythmically deficient?
i am interested in finding more about african disco stuff - i hugely enjoyed this compilation but never got round to digging deeper:

any recommendations?
the RA review name checks "Soul Jazz's 2002 Hustle! Reggae Disco and the Miles Cleret-curated Nigeria Disco Funk Special (from 2008)". Worth a look? Listening to this heart of light thing now but not really what I was looking for, although it is nice.
this is more the vibe i was digging from lagos disco inferno:
yes.
i had high hopes for that Lagos Disco Infernal record, but was massively let down.
there are some compilations out there on Strut, Analog Africa, Honest Jons too i think, and they should be easy to find. Nigeria Disco Funk Special, as well as all other volumes in that series on that label, are among the top of the bunch. also must listen, though not only disco but rock, soul, and psych tip, is the "Love Is A Real Thing, Fuzzy Psych Sounds of West Africa"
that tune in the youtube you linked from Lagos Disco Infernal sounds waaaay too western, with the stunted 1-2 dupple beat, to be of any, even minor interest to me.
