Remember the talk of "bringing back the grey men", the boring John Major breed of politician? We've more or less got that. Be careful what you wish for, I suppose.

I remember us talking about "bringing back the grey men" a while back, the boring, John Major-esque breed of politician, and we've more or less got that. Be careful what you wish for, I guess.
In retrospect, I think Major had more humanity than most of the current crop of weird robot-people. I'm not sure I can really justify that, though, but it seems true somehow.

But you know there are millions of nutters who'd have Totes Ledge Bants Shagger Johnson back in charge in a heartbeat.

You just know Rishi wouldn't have a very interesting record collection. I wouldn't even bother getting up to look at the row of CDs on the bookshelf underneath his telly while he's in the kitchen making me a cup of tea, because I'll find nothing to be enthusiastic about and that will be embarrassing.

Laura Kuenssberg has made a series with talking heads talking about the "State of Chaos" in UKGov 2017-22, involving interviews with Tories and Civil servants and Hillary Benn.

I just realized that Hillary Benn is almost a spoonerism of Benny Hill.

The results from Tamworth and Mid-Bedfordshire represent one of the worst by-election nights that any government has had to endure.
In Tamworth, the 23.9% swing from Conservative to Labour was the second highest in post-war by-election history. No government has previously lost so safe a seat - the Conservatives had a 42% majority in 2019 - to the principal opposition party in a by-election contest.
In Mid-Bedfordshire it was a little lower, 20.5%. However, the Conservatives' own share of the vote fell by even more than in Tamworth. Indeed, the 28.7 point drop in Mid-Bedfordshire was the sixth biggest fall in Tory support in the post-war period.

Daily Mail/Skwawkbox writers already bashing out their "Disappointment for Starmer as Tories still get some votes..." articles, no doubt.

still the best rishi sunak clip imo. starts off managing to come across to the kids as vaguely affable with a cheesy but passable joke but then it just goes on and unbearably on and ends up at full accidental partridge status. feels a lot longer than a 1 minute clip lol

Seen it before, but you deserve a like for reminding me. I don't know whether I like that one best, or the one where he spuriously claims to have "working-class friends" and then immediately corrects himself as he realises nobody is going to buy a whopper of that magnitude for half a second.

How about when he helped out at a soup kitchen and asked a homeless guy whether he was considering getting into finance?

Oh god, I'd forgotten that too! That one's even better! The man is a comedy genius. Literally unparodyable when the originals are so good.
