Who's seeing ash in the sky?

i'm in the states, so not me, but wondering who in our international membership is experiencing this firsthand. what's it like...cool? scary?

my wife is currently in the uk visiting family, supposed to fly back on sunday. hopefully skies will clear by then.

Skies over London have been clear and lovely. Actually clearer than usual as there are no contrails.

Maybe a tiny bit hazy but nothing unusual.

ironically, i heard the airport in iceland has remained open because it's north of the volcano and the wind has carried the ash south and west.

yeah i think it's too high up for us to see it from the ground but it's obviously causing delays across Europe, certainly north & west Europe anyway. hope your better half isn't stuck come Sunday, Leo!

that said, i think airports are supposed to get moving by this time tomorrow again.

a friend of a friend is supposedly off from Manchester to DC tomorrow, two other FAFs are supposed to be coming back to Mcr from Venice, another from Berlin and the best i know of is a FAF who is in Milan for work. he was due back this evening, but i've just heard is staying over w a colleague instead and having a big ol' Milanese dinner this evening w their family, the Inter Milan-Juve game on the box.

The comedian said he hopes to catch a Eurostar train back to London at 3 p.m. on Saturday, if he gets there in time. The French news agency AFP reports that the comedian said the fare will be 30,000 Norwegian kroner, or just over $5,000. It is not clear if that includes a tip, or how it will be divided by the three drivers in the taxi.

i got up this morning and for about ten or 20 minutes saw loads of ash in the sky, dull, cloudy white covering everything down the road, and thought to myself 'hey up! Icelandic, spot on!'

then i realised it was a bloke doing a bonfire up the street in his garden.

This is probably the first time in my life where I haven't heard or seen an aeroplane for days on end. Even after 9/11 you saw a few. A completely clear blue sky today and not a vapour trail in sight.

yeah, well, so much for that! her flight from hearthrow sunday at 8pm was just cancelled, might not be able to make it out for a few more days as they sort out the backlog of stranded passengers. oh well, now i have another few days of blasting my obnoxious music, not shaving, etc....could be worse! ;)

London was beautiful today, sun shining, people everywhere, and no background noise, total clear sky. It must have been like that in the 1920s, roll on World War One!

Dunno whether it's connected with the ash cloud but there was a STUNNING sunset on Saturday. I was on the coach from Oxford back to London but had to keep craning my neck to turn around and look. It was practically pornographic.
