Excellent from Ghana. Played at a a high tempo and went for the win. And made me some money into the bargain.

Ghana 'partying with the goats and the chickens' according to an ITV commentator/pundit? I didn't catch it, can anyone else confirm this!?

I noticed quite a few Algeria players sporting similar haircuts to some of Glasgow's more questionable youngsters. Chaouchi, Ghezzal and Yebda look like they should be tagging up a bus shelter and drinking Smirnoff Ice somewhere round here

Yeah, that was Desailly, who was born in Ghana, then quoted back at him by the presenter

Ill be supporting Maradonna's Argentina as his sensationalism can compensate any boredom when the football is on in the local.

Big sidetrack here but has anyone heard that Dizze /Cordon football song.

Just awful.

Can't believe Klose is in with a shout of overtaking Muller and even Ronaldo in all-time WC scoring. He's not even in the best 10* German strikers of the last 40 years.

*this may not be strictly accurate, but it's true in spirit

i would be fuming if i were an english werder bremen fan with the arrogant commentary of "perhaps a premiership club will buy ozil" or whatever beglin said. werder bremen are in the champions league next season ffs! and germans don't tend to leave their national league either

Darned cockwombles.
This is what happens when you a) employ people on the basis of how good they were at playing the game, not how much they know about it b) encourage everyone to collude n the myth that ours is a league full of unbeatable superstars c) are generally pigshit ignorant.

Ah, that's not fair.

Oh, it is.

i know we've moved on a bit now but just wanted to chime in smugly by saying I told you so re: england's utter lack of imagination / sideways and backwards passing / long hopeful/hopeless diagonal balls / etc. The last ten minutes were excruciating to watch, while we should've been driving forward we spent most of the time just passing it around between our defenders, nobody with the slightest clue what to do when they got the ball. It's just embarrassing. I'm just hoping that we're doing one of those starting-slow-and-continually-improving-things but i'm sticking with my prediction that we'll come badly unstuck as soon as we meet a half-decent team. we need to get joe cole on the pitch. and i hope capello puts dawson in over carragher, he was shocking when he came on and his lack of pace was badly exposed.

also totally agree with the comments re: shearer, hansen, mccarthy etc. those comments about "nobody knowing anything about slovenia/algeria" were unbelievable, and i facepalmed myself like twenty times during the argentina/nigeria game because of mccarthy. that man is just repulsive. at one point he tried to say one of the nigerians' names and just glibly said "i'm not gonna try to pronounce that". Is it too much to ask that if you're being paid to go to the world cup and commentate for millions of people that you at least know how to pronounce the players' names and DO SOME FUCKING RESEARCH BEFOREHAND YOU SPAZZY CUNT??

For the first time ever i'm thinking the ITV coverage is actually better (though of course i'm not watching in HD). Which channel was klinsmann on? he has interesting/thoughtful things to say.

We were clearly watching a different game. I don't disagree with you about England's chances of serious progress (or, sadly, about Carragher), but I thought England played OK in the second half, used the wings well and created quite a few better-than-half chances.
