rhythmelodics (i didn't say rhythms like a once poster obsessed with Eurocentrism on here) isn't inherent to white people apart from those in the east european balkans. that's why even that 0.00001% of good trance isn't rhythmelodic. English or German music is incapable of teaching you about rhythmelodics.

maybe you could explain what you mean. it's not quite "post youtubes of people playing tuned percussion instruments" so what is it exactly

well, Ornette Coleman famously never explained what the hell he actually meant by harmelodics either

from a technical standpoint one would assume something to do with tuned percussion, polyrhythms, non-Western scales, and so on

but then there's Ed Rush and some pretty standard mid-90s UK techno and sweeping statements about white people, so who knows

btw luka if you've never read the one very brief harmelodics manifesto Coleman did produce I recommend it, seems like it'd be right up your alley

kinda reminds me of one of your introspective post strings but less mythopoetic, tho more banal, and probably more esoteric

it also reminds me of Bruce Lee - another genius who never published his masterwork - and all his the ultimate form is no form is all forms kinds of lines

where a guy has to got such a level of complexity and purity that there aren't really words to communicate it directly, but maybe also half of it is bullshit

it has the wonderful line "I play pure emotion"

Body Rhythmelodics is a whole body learning process designed to lead participants to deeper levels of connection with their own innate sense of rhythm and melody. It’s a great tool for musical and personal development, which also happens to be a lot of fun!

Utilising a unique combination of body percussion and vocal patterns a gradual, step-by-step process brings participants to a point where they are “playing” separate, independent rhythmic and melodic parts with their lower body, upper body and voices. As the group settles into a state of musical entrainment (ie the groove is locked in) a playful space opens up where some participants may choose to explore improvisation.

I mean I read More Brilliant Than the Sun and I don't know if Kodwo Eshun managed to explain what the hell he was trying to talk about but it's still a great book

like that

except black. afro-futurist Blade Runner.

isn't kind of amazing that for the diversity of Blade Runner's cityscape there's not a single black person in all of Los Angeles? that I can recall, anyway.

still on my very short all-time list, but has to be noted

my big perceptual-intellectual weakness is that i can't perceive or think in structure/system so coleman is never going to appeal to me
