By far the most damning reflection on Barty's memoir. Dunno how you could even start to recover from that one.

liberal democracy is the only political order that is ethically justifiable. all others are illegitimate and one should only accept them as part of a pragmatic compromise with a past we did not (could not) choose. where possible, illiberal states should be made or encouraged to become liberal-democracies, so that over time the world becomes more liberal and more democratic.
