The way the media have managed to whip people up into a frenzy over the winter fuel payment is ridiculous. The state pension's going up by £460 in April and, as far as I understand it, the payment isn't being cut for the poorest anyway. It's so people like my gran, her husband and many of their friends who own their own homes and have more than enough to run them aren't taking money that could be better spent elsewhere.

I like the fact that Labour are willing to do the unpopular, to grasp so many nettles, as there is a lot to be done. They want to sort out the NHS. They should look at France and Germany where the public health systems employ a far greater proportion of the population than we do. It's gonna be an uphill struggle, but I'm there for them over the next 2 years.
