I'm re reading Rip it Up and Start Again at the moment and there's so much good stuff in there. A trove.
Also packed with resonant phrases. I read the line "the scent of spunk and the harsh tang of amyl" in there last night before bed and it's stuck with me all day

I can't really remember what was covered in it now but I like/love bits by Joy Division, The Fall, Television, DEVO, PiL...
You know what, I think I've misremembered here. I think what actually happened was that I really liked a lot of the music which I didn't really expect to like and which I listened to because of the book.

Yeah it's the endless manifestos, theorising, factionalism and posing that I enjoy reading about the most. All these nutcases on speed who thought they were gonna tear apart the whole game. The music is almost incidental in a way.

Although when the book covers music that I really love, like Mission of Burma, it does that as well as Energy Flash for me

lolllll there's a vast wealth of amazing postpunk records, and Rip It Up manages to cover an awful lot of them
lotta chaff too, but that's anything, especially with so much going on
my idealized postpunk list wouldn't be exactly the same as blissblogger's but that's the beauty of the era ain't it, so many things going on across such a broad range of sounds, united by mindset/aesthetic/ambition, that no two people's will be alike
