Justification for new security laws? An attempt to buy Trump time? A genuine protest?

What would the new law be "Don't open the gate to the sacred heart of US democracy for terrorists, nor should one invite them in or pose for selfies with them" - until now no-one had realised that it was necessary to state that explicitly but apparently it is.

Yeah but if anything they've strengthened resolve among Constitutional and stability-first Republicans, who will have none of this

Ultimately I;m with you there, but I don;t think we can rule out some kind of dynamic alignment of anomalies.

Any actual seizure of power would require some number of congresspeople to capitulate, no? In order to preserve policymaking ability? And that seems pretty tough to pull off.

I dunno though, when they try and certify again (tomorrow?) then it's gonna be harder for people to object cos that will automatically align them with these thugs... I wouldn't be surprised if when they do have the debate it goes through much more smoothly than it would have done today.

Much of Republican political establishment has always hated Trump and his base. They've had to appease and kiss ass for a long time, but he's finally on the way out, and there's little reason to protect him or his trashy reality TV fans anymore.

Idk. Someone was shot, there was the real possibility of violence against the newly elected president and other Dems.
