what's your take on greenpoint as a whole leo? and more importantly, on the paulie gees experience. i've rarely been treated with such contempt
absolutely RE: Paulie Gee's, the pizza is decent but both times I've been there I've gotten some attitude. I guess I'd be cranky too if I had to deal with idiot customers all day, and they're busy enough that they don't care. the first time I went there, I pointed at a pie and asked "what's on that?" the guy pointed to the other end of the counter and said "the sign is over there". I said "what, you can't just tell me?" he looked shocked that anyone pushed back on his lip and proceeded to brood behind the counter, haha. fuck him. I went yesterday because I didn't have time to sit down in a restaurant.
greenpoint is ok, pluses and minuses like everywhere. way more expensive than it used to be, some nice blocks but mostly kind of ugly building stock, and overrun by Williamsburg types who can't afford Williamsburg. but it does still have a nice older polish community stronghold, a few decent used record stores (academy, grouch, captured tracks), some decent bars (troost has a nice backyard, and used to host experimental music on some nights). not littered with new construction like Williamsburg, less douchie hipster than bushwick.
