I skimmed some of Middlemarch and thought Eliot's prose was good.

“But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”

1. Ariana Reines
2. Kaitlin Phillips
3. Audrey Wollen
4. Sarah Nicole-Pirkcett
5. Natasha Stagg / Anna Khachiyan tie
7. David Velasco

You know slightly off-topic but he does live in Brooklyn and writes a+ prose on occasion—Ben Lerner. Inconsistent, but brilliant.

ariana reines is the one who flipped out on vimeo innit - the astrologer?

Dunno anything about a vimeo flipout, but yeah, poet-astrologer. Wrote Couer de Lion, which is a really beautiful book of poetry, very quick and unintimidating to read, casual language, good stuff. And then Sand Book, which is big and kinda doorstoppy and mixed-quality (but with some gems!). She's actually friends with Ben Lerner I believe, they've done some conversations together for places like BOMB

i did actually listen to that red scare with her on and the thing that stuck with me that she said is that you can think of the planets as your distant parents, like going back nth times, like saturn is your great great great great great great great great great great great great grandfather or whatever. it's a corny way to explain it but it's also quite mnemonical...

i downloaded one of the books and tried a few pages but stopped then saw he rname for some meltdown in lockdown
