question: how important is it or how intrinsic is it

if that's a word that can be used like that

that Nolan is English? And posh English to boot?

I can't imagine an American Christopher Nolan.

Is everything good and everything annoying about Nolan somehow bound up in him being a big posh pork-pie eating Englishman?

You seen this thing with Guy Pearce saying he (himself) was really shit in Memento? Seems a bit harsh, I think he did what was needed, I still find that telephone scene chilling.

Yeah I was surprised to hear about those comments he made. I actually thought he was good in that role, given what the role required, in my opinion.

edit: oh wait I'm thinking of The Brutalist, I thought his comment was about his role in that.

Maybe I just don't care enough, but I didn't even know Nolan was English, much less posh English.

Christopher Edward Nolan was born on 30 July 1970, in Westminster, London. His father, Brendan James Nolan, was a British advertising executive of Irish descent[1] who worked as a creative director. His mother, Christina Jensen, was an American flight attendant from Evanston, Illinois; she would later work as a teacher of English. He has an elder brother, Matthew, and a younger brother, Jonathan, also a filmmaker. The three brothers were raised Catholic in Highgate and would spend their summers in Evanston.[2][3] Nolan also spent time living in Chicago during his youth, and he holds both UK and US citizenship.[4][5]

Nolan was educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, an independent school in Hertford Heath, Hertfordshire, and later studied English literature at University College London (UCL).

If you live long enough. After being a hero. Then. Soon you will undoubtedly start to be called a villain.
