Not much to boast about for edibles recently, but I did find this cool little white helvella yesterday:

Apparently poisonous, or not good to eat, anyway, although they're related both to morels and truffles.

Pretty sure there were some liberty caps at my parents garden at the weekend but I was too scared of dying a horrible death to pick them..

Is there anything horribly poisonous that looks like liberty caps or should I have been bolder?

They had that nipple type protrusion on top, that's a distinguishing mark of magic ones right?

Nope. There are definitely no deadly mushrooms that can be confused with libs. You should pick as many as you can find and them mail them to luka ASAP.

Coprinus comatus, the shaggy ink cap, lawyer's wig, or shaggy mane, is a common fungus often seen growing on lawns, along gravel roads and waste areas. The young fruit bodies first appear as white cylinders emerging from the ground, then the bell-shaped caps open out. The caps are white, and covered with scales—this is the origin of the common names of the fungus. The gills beneath the cap are white, then pink, then turn black and secrete a black liquid filled with spores (hence the "ink cap" name). This mushroom is unusual because it will turn black and dissolve itself in a matter of hours after being picked or depositing spores.

I don't think they'd do you any harm, but you'd have a hard time getting them down. They're extremely tough and rubbery.

If you're serious about picking mushrooms to eat, I'd recommend buying a field guide or a book on wild food. It's become super trendy in the last few years (of course, I was into it before it was cool...), so there are loads of titles available.
