The Congos - Congoman (1977)

Been a long time since I listened to this album. BUT TODAY'S THE DAY, DAMMIT. Not even stoned yet. Reggae sadly became tarnished in my mind with connections to flirtations with weed psychosis and flirtations with wearing a Bob Marley t-shirt and saying 'yeah mon'. It's not you it's me, reggae.

Perry’s mission at the Black Ark was to ruralise reggae, removed from Kingston’s urban edginess; and with these deeply spiritual Rastafarian singers he had the perfect focus for his musical creations. On Fisherman, Children Crying and La La Bam-Bam, he takes things so deep into the island’s interior you need a machete to hack through. Thick, blurring layers of drum and bass soften into each other, while the guitar cascades down like creepers, giving the plaintive singing the support it needs to keep moving.

One thing I enforced with merciless fascist vigor in the original (and best) COTD thread was that everyone should write something about what they post, otherwise I will never listen (and I would think neither would anybody else).

As you can see from my shitty congos post, it doesn't even have to be anything profound or entertaining or even literate.

The Congos - Children Crying (1977)

Was Timbaland inspired by this use of the mooing cow to incorporate a baby crying into that Aaliyah choon?

And did these feet in ancient times
