you know all the half decent places left, whereas Rob’s = random as it gets

a Network 23 girl you probably know (no names) paired up with another lass on Sunday acollective altered states sessions with records almost entirely sourced from said outlet

@WashYourHands : in Manchester we had "YANKS" *, a huge warehouse full of Mafia tax evasion "cutouts"

racks of parliament and captain sky "super sporm" cutouts for 10p a pop

I used to treat these like dirt, digging holes in the grooves to achieve pre sampler locked grooves, loops, and BREAKS to record on to a borrowed 4 track tascam cassette home recording studio

I ruined so many "valuable" records that way

edit: it was only a few years ago that I found out there was a secret back room with the "real shit" reserved for "professional DJs"

* it might have traded under the name of "power cuts" after a customs and excise raid, I'm OLD SKOOL though, it'll always be YANKS ** to me

** although much to my shame I now happen to know YANKS was also the brand name of an "adult" video company specialising in "solo" and "female masturbation" videos, that's what wrong with google, I'm looking to get teary eyed about a defunct record shop and then I'm confronted with a low resolution mpeg of a skanky substance abuser playing with a cheap plastic "toy" dripping in "lube" in a ratty motel room that was previously the scene of a meth deal gone seriously wrong

imagine if the VELVET UNDERGROUND were a druggy Kingston reggae outfit produced by LEE PERRY

JOY WHITE - LAY BESIDES YOU

the first two bars are pure VU and then the SKAG swaps places with SKANK

fans of the Kung Fu album may recognise what is going on here...

sir @william_kent - I was inspired by your post so I started fcking around with VU, but then I ended up going in an opposite direction...

I think it's pretty good considering I don't have any music hardware or software besides my DJ gear and programs like Rekordbox and VDJ so most stuff is done in "real time" instead of programmed

there are certain "dubstep" labels I buy on sight

one is "KILLA SOUND"

in the post yesterday was KILLA SOUND 009

I'm so ahead of the curve there is no YouTube video

but both sides rely heavily on records I already I own

the A side samples from PRINCE HAMMER - BRIXTON TRIALS AND CROSSES

PRINCE HAMMER - BRIXTON TRIALS AND CROSSES

TL;DR

HAMMER is a MANCHESTER legend

when I was system administrator at the first ever Internet cafe in the UK ( @woops: not Cyberia, they were Johnny come lately chancers ) one rasta dude came in and I mentioned HAMMER and he was like "EVERYONE IN THE MOSS KNOWS HAMMER, he's a BADMAN!)

when I was playing records in public at a community BBQ I was hoping HAMMER would pop in so I could play this tune but he was probably in jail at the time, but the sister of the owner of the number one MANCHESTER WARRIOR SOUND jumped on the mic and all my friends fucked off because they thought "he is on a promise, he doesn't need our support and he is sort of grinding" and I destroyed the place with my roots and steppers selection plus her chat but then I had to keep a bottle of WRAY AND NEPHEW safe for the psycho dude who had tried to tax me 20 years earlier in the all night patty and taxi joint and then I sparked up a spiff of pure haze with no baccy and the RENO VETERAN guy started playing MANCHESTER STREET SOUL classics and I might have whited out and totally blew my chances...but a few years later I got on a bus and some dude stared at me and said"do I know you?" and it was the owner of the WARRIOR SOUND and I was like "no, but I met your sister, she rocked the mic" and he showed me his bag of Augustus Pablo Hugh Mundell tunes and I reciprocated by showing him a bag of Joe Gibbs productions...another time I was buying some records off a prime mover on the MANCHESTER dancehall scene and he mentioned "I got my start chanting on the"WARRIOR SOUND" and I said"oh I know his sister" and he told me some sad news about another member of the family who I met when I was playing records at the community BBQ

but HAMMER

you may not heard of him but HAMMER may have been the guy in the yellow jumpsuit and red beret in the classic ROCKERS record shop scene

he had some moves

he moved to Manchester and cosplayed Dracula but maybe more renowned for his pimping skills

BRIXTON TRIALS AND CROSSES was a UK do-over of an EARL 16 tune

EARL 16 - TRIALS AND CROSSES

the other side of the KILLA SOUND 009 10" I received in the post yesterday samples a tune I was going to post to this thread the other night

THE MIGHTY THREES - RASTA BUSINESS

pure perfection, 3 part harmony on a par with EARTH & STONE

edit: I never mentioned about the time I played a KILLA SOUND 10" and one of the FULL CREW from the "free party sound system" leaned over and "pulled and hauled' and the place exploded

there is a swingers channel I sometime watch because the bloke looks like the spitting image of my recent boss and I love the way he gets a bit nauseous when he mentions the darkrooms in Berghain because he is "sensitive to odour"

"apropos of nothing" *

* this evening I've deleted more than a few posts about UK TINA "PINS" parties, elbow deep 24/7 Eurodance soundtracks, fisting / meth, bloodstained shit stained walls, swingers, dark rooms and SKAG & SPEED

I guess @Benny Bunter wasn't quick enough to quote my transgressions tonight

Ernest Wilson - Money Worries

as

relevant

as ever

in the ROCKERS clip I posted above there is a DJ chatting shit over a later do over ( channel one ? ) version of this STUDIO ONE tune playing just before HAMMER bursts in to the scene in his yellow tracksuit and natty dread red beret

a couple of months ago I was playing the 12 inch disco mix of this on repeat

Everywhere you go, it's the same cry:
Money worry,
money worry

You work all day in the burning sun
You work all day, you ain't get no fun
But when it's time for pay you'll get
You hang down your head and fret
Woah-oh

Everywhere you go, it's the same cry:
Money worry,
money worry

My daddy has a little car
It is so little that it can't get far
But when it's time for gas to buy
He hang down his head and cry
woah oh
Everywhere you go, it's the same cry:
Money worry,
money worry

there were many days I would walk into work and I would be singing to myself "Money worry, money worry"

still do this tbh, I sing to myself about how "MONEY WORRY" is the "SAME CRY" and my daddy is dead and he can\t drive a car

it's only gone to get worse
