One of the advantages Hitchens has when he's debating these type of lefties is that he used to be heavily involved in revolutionary socialism himself when he was young. That, and the decades of experience in journalism since then, including covering the 80s industrial disputes and living in Moscow when the Soviet Union collapsed.

debating is for fools. That applies as much to Bastani as it does Hitchens. Insofar as debating (more correctly dissent) can be useful, it can be for
scientific purposes, I.E: internal organisational arguments and contentious discussions to arrive at the correct orientation. Otherwise it's just so much hot air.

There's no reason to censor debates, because they inter alia indicate a position of defeat, not strength. Whether Hitchens shows up decrepit bourgeois imperialists such as Bastani is just so much mental masturbation. The right also get off on this spectacle of debating. All renegades do. There will be no debates in socialism! Even Stalinists can try to create debate societies, but noone will give a damn.

I expect the Novara/Corbynites axis will be increasingly heavily promoted up til the election, especially the more bonkers and toxic aspects, in order to distract from actual politics, discourage voters on the left and inflame voters on the right and centre

Is there a conspicuous lack of media interest in the inevitable election next year and almost certain change of regime?
Definitely compared to the US where things seem to be getting intense already

A good strategy for the Tories will be to call the election at short notice around a big issue like for example entering the war in ukraine, that could still swing it for them

The Guardian gave that album five stars despite the TERF stuff. I'd have thought they'd have panned it on ideological grounds.

Weird binary you set up here, they do both dont they? Educate young people on how to set up unions too. Have you been to any union meets organised by old public sector types? Not great I’ll tell ya. We’re in the biggest wave of strikes in our lifetime and Novara do some of the best reporting and activism around it so don’t see your point here tbh
