Jungle is from 1994, not 2024 tsch tsch

Could be slightly more interesting than their top tracks of 2024, which was basically a load of rubbish + Tinashe

The names alone fill me with ennui

Fontaines D.C. FKA Twigs. chapelle Roan. Charlie xcx.

Some of these are on my list and I still find it unbearably depressing

Enough to 3D print a ghost gun and blast myself in my wrinkly forehead

The album lists are particularly bewildering to me

Who listens to albums these days? Only music journalists (who have to) and maniacs (who have to)

It's time to have a stern word with myself

These generalist lists from publications are always either shit or just 95% not to your taste, depending on who you ask

The only lists that are worth checking out by and large are the specialist lists by bloggers who are totally obsessed with e.g. bay area rap and don't have to please a wide audience by making sure to tick the chapelle roan, baile funk and sabrina carpenter boxes.

I have my giant list of 2024 releases playlist on shuffle and will drop things I like in here forthwith

First year in history not a single good song was made

I still hear good tunes, but they don't stick. "Yeah, bangs", listen to it a few times then forget about it. It's retroactively happening to more and more music for me too. That's why I struggle to name favourites at all. I love The Infamous and it probably is one of my favourite albums, but I barely listen to it and when I do I just stick the odd track on.

I wonder if things 'don't stick' anymore because we're not out and about or dedicated to music in that way anymore

The only music I associate with going out this year are the Charli XCX tunes cos they were getting played at the middle aged parties in living rooms i now go to and also Glastonbury—there's an emotional-contextual connection there that most of this new music lacks

Maybe for some, but I've done most of my listening throughout my life at home and online and I used to have clear favourites and buy new CDs, records and digital releases up until fairly recently.

Possibly the worst music of the year was Eminem on this track (@version i think you showed me this, you said it showed who 'the true rap god' was)

I remember last year I came up with these 3, that were my most listened to that year.

Willie Colon - Set Fire To Me (Inferno Dub)
Mr Flagio - Take a Chance
Donna McGhee - It Ain’t No Big Thing

So this year, and it's just the 3 I can say have been ringing round in my head.

Romanthony - The Wanderer
Chez and Trent - Don’t Try It
Classic Man 93 - No More Mind Games (Waste No Time Mix)

Abysmal but that's (c)PTSD for you. You could throw in the odd bit by Michael Small, Aaron Copland, and at a push David Lynch and Jackie Mitoo.
