Wow. Wee you doing group art and shot?
i played in bands:

and

(still exists with no original members + michelle shocked, somehow)

+ worked as a bike messenger + at a record store + did graffiti + many other very interesting things.

was overjoyed when i was finally able to leave the city, but realize now that i was ridiculously
fortunate to have had such a thorough experience of the lower east side's final wild days.

Replying to remind myself to listen to this soon.

aahhahahaahahahahhahahaa i'm queer + enjoy playing with ideas which are maybe related to gender, but don't think of myself as trans and haven't read enough about trans matters to be able to discuss them in any depth. don't really talk about
trans stuff with my trans friends, either, now that i'm thinking about it? iono. what do you think
the appeal of being tarns is, catalog?

I think it's about achieving a form of agency. Maya B. Kronic (fka Robin McKay) says the act of wearing a dress was creative and afforded the opportunity to see themselves in a new way.

And then that one act, which could be done in private, can then lead to more "agency creating" situations. You might accessorise. You might then go out and see how the world treats you.

It's a creative thing, an agency seeking thing.

Best explanation I've heard so far.

Wary of the forum getting into this topic again, but I'd be careful framing it in terms of 'appeal' and 'creativity' as though it's a hobby or artistic choice. Maybe that's the case for some, but the trans people I know are just trans. They aren't doing some sort of art project or experiment.

That's certainly accurate for some people, myself included. I was very into fringe drag folks like Karen Black, Leigh Bowery, and Blacklips when I was in my late teens, which led to my experimenting with spooky crossdressing when I first started DJing. While transvestism did not wind up being My Thing, it did indeed enrich my understanding of the world and is a phase I'm very happy to have gone through. Have you seen Paris is Burning? It explores your point at length, if no:

The vast majority of the transpeople I've known over the years (including a woman I nearly married) would tell you that gender dysphoria was their primary motivation for identifying as such. Autogynephilia also exists, as do dweebs who claim trans/nb for scene clout. Look at these Funyuns that I saw at the store: funyuns.jpg

Yeah I have not seen that film, really should. And totally get the point about gender dysphoria as major motivator. I guess I'm thinking of things in a libidinal sense, as in the "attractor" side of why you might wanna change.
