Great 2 Step?

This here is a cd that came free with Muzik magazine, which was a slightly higher brow version of Mixmag. It's a label showcase for Locked On from late 2000, mixed by label head Andy Lewis. There's a few rare remixes of tracks.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/8fswa6

1. Todd Edwards- Saved My Life (Large Joints mix)
2. Zed Bias- Neighbourhood (2k Vocal mix)
3. Ruff Cut and Bias- Down (DND mix)
4.EL-B feat Juiceman- Digital
5. Suburban Lick- Here Come the lick (DJ South Central Mix)
6. Monsta Boy- Sorry
7. Red or Dred- How I feel
8. James Lavonz feat She & Mr D- mash Up Da venue
9. Wideboys- Something Got Me Started- (Dub mix)
10. Leee Jon- Your Mind, Your Body, Your Soul (MJ Cole mix)
11. James Lavonz- Vibration

the remixes make the CD more interesting than it would be if it was just a compilation of the labels release schedule for that year. The todd mix is different from the original but works quite well. DND and the Wideboys offerings are undiscovered gems. the south central cut is a fucking garage classic. and the closing track is a brilliant 4/4 tune, should have put James Lavonz on the map

Beast of Burden
This was super sweet. It was all over the FM dial when I first arrived in London, alongside other lovely things like 'Girls Like Us' and 'Can't Stop'. I miss the likes of Shola Ama and Gabrielle. In fact, I think that when people stopped making records like this, London lost something (atmosphere, fun...).

I had a soft spot for Sweetest Taboo, and enjoyed Girls Like This, but Imagine was a level of commercialism that I couldnt deal with. That and Club Asylums mix of KCI & Jo Jo were beyond the pale for me, I thought the latter was some dodgy Backstreet Boys tune or something. Unfortunately for me they were very big tunes so it was impossible to get away from them.

On the R&B mix tip, this was above average

And Y tribe had some excellent tunes

Here's the mix CD par from this 4 pack set from '99. UK Garage: The Pirate Anthems, mixed by DJ Lewi & Ricky Magic Martin.

The mix is 2/3 4 to the floor, but still. These are all underground tracks and most of them arent on any other compos. 1999 Garage is really under represented in CD's, and even on pirate shows.

Surely the WORST garage record ever made. I fucking hated it at the time and I still do.

I think I've got everything else on that CD though!

Actually I really like it. Great chorus. The Durrty Goodz Switching Songs track reignited my interest in it.

Someone should start a thread with that title, 'worst garage record ever made'

bandz ahoy
Worst garage record was made by Artful Dodger and Robbie Craig, surely?

Edit: Here you go. Aaargh! I LOATHED this.

Maybe it's my newfound mania for 2-step but I love this tune

I probably hated it back in the day too lol

''Girls like this'' is great too. If anyone's got a mix featuring quite a lot of the big vocal anthems on it, I'll be all ears.

i love this tune. when i was doing my tefl, one of the posh girls (who make up a sizable proportion of the ppl who do those courses these days, trust) was doing a lesson on chav culture and played this tune of youtube as a demonstration. i walked in and said 'oi big tune' and got nothing but disrespect for the whole of the rest of the course.

"this was when garage was alright!"

speaking of which (ie Switching Songs), have ppl here heard Faction G - Music4Good (produced by Sully). similar sort of vibe, been battering it recently

The Rome thing everyone has been on since Bush stole his first election and then the WTC towers got destroyed is played out now.

That's a really AWFUL version.

The original mix of Woman Trouble is one of the absolute best garage records ever made, serious. It's on the garage tape 2000 mix I put up a while back.

And Marcus, seriously, how can you not like babycakes? ardkore pop brilliance!
