Fuck me, how shit are Milan? It's not the 80s any more, you are supposed to track back. On comes Inzaghi - because that will sort it out.

Yes, it was nice to see Nasri, Bendtner and Park stake their claim to places in Capello's World Cup squad.

So, are the french teams capable of springing any other major shocks? I'd like to think so, but I can't see either of them beating United or Chelsea.

"That Porto are rubbish? Imagine having a hat-trick scored against you by Bendtner - what point would there be going on?"
Yeah, I thought they looked soft in the first leg, it's just that Arsenal failed to take their own chances and then gave Porto some comedy goals which meant that the second leg was interesting on paper.

Well, at two nil they totally threw in the towel and were obviously more concerned about their game at the weekend - but still that last twenty minutes was embarrassing, United were queueing up to take pot-shots, a bit more composure and they'd have had a couple more. I would be gutted to see my team surrender so comprehensively.

Does it boil down to Barcelona or an English side then again? Inter could win it I guess.

Does seem like one from three to me (Barca, Chelsea, Man U), although I can't, on reflection, count out Inter so long as Mourinho is there. The second leg could easily turn into a reprise of Chelsea-Barca at the Bridge last year.

Didn't watch Real-Lyon - are Lyon actually that good any more?

God, am completely forgetting Bayern...

Well, that was a lot of fun.

Good old Becks looked like he was welling up when he got brought on to massive cheers. Minutes later, the crowd was booing him whenever he kicked the ball! Nice volley, though.

Think that the crowd would have been less generous if the result had still been in the balance though...
Yeah, forgot Bayern.
Real Madrid have spent an awful lot of money to get knocked out in the same round yet again. Wonder if Ronaldo has any regrets this morning.

I'm trying to piece together who they've been knocked out by (in the second round) over the past six years...it's an astonishing statistic for the world's richest club...:

2003 S-Fs Juventus 2-1 1-3 (the latter is one of the best club performances I've ever seen - Nedved on fire IIRC)
2004 Q-Fs Monaco 3-1 2-4 (one of the all-time classic CL games)

2005 Juventus 1-0, 0-2 (joint top with Leverkusen, 2nd by head-to-head)
2006 Arsenal 0-1, 0-0 (2nd to Lyon in their group)
2007 Bayern Munich 3-2, 1-2 (2nd to Lyon in their group)
2008 Roma 1-2, 1-2 (joint top with Olympiakos - 1st by head-to-head)
2009 Liverpool 0-1, 0-4 (joint top with Juventus - 2nd by head-to-head)
2010 Lyon 0-1, 1-1 (top of their group)

Appalling record, but in their defence they haven't had any easy games in that lot (Roma the only possible exception).

Lyon very much their tormentors...

Interesting too that both Madrid and Milanhave been crushed 4-0 by English teams recently - I can't imagine they've had worse defeats before in the European Cup...

Still pissed off with Chelsea. Credit to Inter though, better side overall (despite Chelsea having three decent penalty appeals over the two legs). I hope Inter go on to win it now

cl qfs breakdown

england 2
france 2
spain 1
italy 1
russia 1
germany 1

france eh? bloody hell

France have been threatening it for a while...reports (2 years ago?) of Lyon's demise greatly exaggerated etc. Russia in there somewhat luckily, I understand, which is disappointing as both Zenit and Kazan have played some unbelievable football in Euro competition over the past few years (Zenit v Rangerrs in the UEFA was a footballing lesson), and it would've been good to see them go through entirely on merit. But good they're there.

Most of those teams I'd pay to watch - football is a definite winner here :D
