im being a bit anal here maybe but
you know what, geeneus was wrong about all the 'nuum' (ugh) music being analagous to hip hop in the states. basically, the nuum works and advances like black music in the US, just sped up. so where in the states it kinda went blues/gospel>>R&B>>>soul>>>funk>>>synth soul/hip-hop>>>hip hop/R&B in terms of one genre really taking over, in the uk its just house/techno>>>rave>>breakbeat hardcore>>>jungle>>>UKG>>>grime/dubstep>>>funky/funkstep/grunky/grunkstep etc etc. saying its all just the same just cos of who makes it and where those people are is like saying hip hop is just blues, or the same as soul, when although theres some obv similarities, theres also equally obv, a huge world of difference. if geeneus had just said whats going on right now is all just house, then that would have made more sense. but its more like what i read semtex say in hip hop connection a while back, that cos the scenes and sounds change here so regularly, thats why you cant get a dr dre type figure, cos the musics are so diff and change so dramatically. i mean you get SOME people that make the jump but most by and large, dont, not succesfully anyway. and the ones that do are usually the ones that didnt make it by and large (eg jungle guys being those who didnt make it in ukhh, grime guys not being able to make it in d&B etc etc)
