Wills Glassspiegel sent me this after I ran into him on the street and remarked how much I enjoyed the radio broadcast he worked on for Afropop about the black American roots of house and techno here.

I’ll let him speak:

“Thought you and Dutty Artz might be interested in this interview tape I recorded in Chicago with Traxman, RP Boo, DJ Earl and Boylan. I think everyone has been trying to describe “footwork” and no one quite gets to it like these guys. In publishing this tape (which i did with their permsision), I was reminded of Lomax’s old oral history interviews with blues musicians. So important for musicians to tell their own stories.”

Yup, I agree. I always prefer to listen to music talk about their own work and scenes as opposed to various usually distant journalistic interpreters. Listen, learn and enjoy.

Half of you make it to easy for me to get under your skin. I just offer a look into the reality of the hierarchy that exists. Sorry if you don't like it. There's no bias. It'll make sense soon enough - I don't need to say anything more. The music and dancing will speak for itself. Just keep in mind that the music came from Ghettohouse and that RP Boo, Rashad, Spinn, Traxman, Clent, Gant, Tre are the real DJs still going strong after crafting the sound. All this Twhy, Roc, Smoke stuff is a whole other breed of trax. I can hear a clear difference. It doesn't matter if you do.

Lit City. January. No vinyl as it's over 20 tracks. There will be vinyl in the future though.

and altho there's definitely tension, fights are very infrequent. pretty much everyone knows how to conduct themselves so it's not a problem.

The track before 2:30 is DJ Rashad 40Cal. The track after is DJ Earl. If anyone needs the name I'll ask him I don't know off the top of my head.

i know i should be excited about this but it doesnt sound juke/footwork enough imo. the t2 filth track is alright though.

these are more on the juke than footwork side though.

what happened to DJ TMO? should have though some of his tuff was gonna be released by now, instead its juts all been taken down from soundcloud.... he had/has a unique take on this sorta acid-y polyrhtyhmic synthy version of juke

He's still around for sure, he just gets salty when he plays his tunes and dancers hate on his tracks, and says he's gonna quit making footwork tunes, starts making acid house, then starts making footwork tracks again.

That boy can dance too
