Butternut squash, lentil and bacon soup is officially the tits. Would work even better on a cold winter's day, though (damn all this nice weather we're having, grumble grumble...).

Yeah, the raw squash is pretty hard so I roasted it (cubed, olive oil, salt, pepper) for about 30 mins at 180C.

Does anyone have a good hummous recipe? I know it's easy, but I want mine to taste like the shop bought stuff, and it never does.

In my experience not worth even trying. Sainsbury's hummus is probably the best I've ever eaten, including stuff in Syria - it's so moreish that I'm convinced there's something dodgy in there. Far better cocnnetrating on baba ghanoush or something, as that definitely can be made to or above the standard in restaurants, quite easily.

can i repeat the best dip ever though? Char-grilled yellow pepper and green chili, whizzed up and combined with feta cheese. Magic. Possibly a spice or two in there, will have to check recipe. Urfa flakes or something might word too, for depth.

Phew thought it was just me. I get through potloads of it, it's ridiculous, and then when I make it it tastes like garlic sick.

On an unrelated note, new Hobnob Medley cereal chocolate bars are amazing.

No, I've had hummus made by really, really good cooks,a dn Sainsburys is way better. Chickpeas compared to aubergines just don't have flavour - I'm sure the Sainsburys one has got added fat in it.

Successful and quick - black pudding with kiwi fruit salsa (just lemon juice, kiwi, sugar, bit of sherry vinegar). Prob even better with a little pineapple.

supermarket hummus is basically just mayonnaise, innit?
hummus is so quick and easy to make tho and it blatantly does taste better than the supermarket stuff. big glug of olive oil in a blender, add tin of chick peas, some cubes of garlic, couple of heaped tablespoons of tahini (almost as much tahini as chick peas), salt, lots of black pepper, juice of 2 lemons, pinch of cumin, pinch of chilli powder, pinch of paprika, bit of yoghurt and a bit of water (water is key otherwise it'll be too dry and chalky).

Black pudding and kiwi salsa sounds nuts. Might have to try that... Yeah, the sainsbury's lemon and coriander hummous is amazing. Tried the tesco stuff recently and I had to chuck it away, waterly gloopy nonsense.

Just had a delicious and easy meal of roast pepper stuffed with peas pilau. Put some coconut cream in with the rice. Not quite as exciting as some of the stuff mentioned upthread.

sainsburys red pepper hummus is like crack. to be honest, crack is probably one of the ingredients - so fucking moreish.

had some kiwi fruit lying around, and have never used it in cooking before. another thing they do Down Under apparently (neevr tried it myself) is to marinate certain kinds of fish in kiwi fruit, making it much more succulent/less tough. Can't remember what fish, mind...

I've never heard of fish being marinaded with Kiwifruit, but it's good for things like Pork ribs or Lamb cutlets; especially where you plan to BBQ said meat.
The theory is sound though, the enzymes in the fruit tenderize the meat. Sort of like one of those insects that regurgitates stomach juices onto it's meal. Delicious.

Yoghurt! Maybe that's the key to the hall of hummus dreams! Thank you!

I didn't use oil or onion, but fired in some black cardamom, bay leaf, cloves, couple of chillis, cumin and turmeric for a little colour.

I also just fired everything in the rice cooker instead of cooking on the stove, turned out great.
