I think that most of us would have some things that we like that we can't defend (or at least can't defend aspects of) morally and so it must be that morality of art isn't totally overriding. I reckon you're right about how difficult it is to get any distance when your moral and aesthetic instincts are pulling you in different directions, especially if one or more of them are doing it strongly.
