1996-'97 Speed Garage Mix - Ruff!

really made me hear garage as proper ruffed up junglized house music in a way that I usually don't. I think, rather strangely, that 4x4 usually sounds way more junglistic to me than 2step. the faster tempo for one, but also - apropos of something the recent Kode9 Wire interview - something about the twitchy energy of the music straining to be released from its 4x4 underpinning.

I think I know what you mean about this but didn't really realise til after I done the mix. I reckon it could be the use of samples, all the time-stretched vox etc and mad FX that make early garage sound more jungalistic than a lot of 2step. Maybe...:slanted:

Darned cockwombles.
Superb. What's the track that seems to be saying "Our crew" a lot at around 13 minutes? And this track at 39:00 is bumping...sounds like L'Trimm on the vocal sample or something...

Much as I love 2-step, this is educating me that I maybe like speed garage even more...loving the sampling and stretched vocals, feels wonderfully inorganic.
