if they were to get more feminity into the sound to lighten the aggression then it could be an absolutely amazing sound
Absolutely. My last favourite track in dubstep was Martyn's Broken Heart remix for that exact reason.

I've been listening to the likes of Benga and Skream with a bit of a different ear of late, I think they are the closest thing at the moment to what you might call the vanguard of hardcore (not necessarily the 'hardcore continuum', more as an analogy), really fucked music for large numbers of people to go nuts to.
"There’s no ‘musicianship’ in my sound, that’s the enemy of my tunes."

jazz in dance music is a state of mind, and for me it heralds the end of a genres vitality.
and the big difference between hardcore and jungle in alot of ways was the hyperspeed 'breakbeat science' that sounded like jazz drumming in loads of ways, so i think jazz has in lots of ways as a 'state of mind' had quite a strong hold in developing musics vitality, loads more examples too, but i agree that long rhodes solos and saxophones aren't really the one.
i'm talking about rhythmic abstraction and breakbeat science in jungle, which seems to be an evolution of abstract jazz drumming.
When i first heard jungle in my mums house in truro way far away from london, i imagined the guys to be black wearing good suits and punky haircuts.

now THAT is interesting
I don't understand too why jazzyness is always associated with post 73 fusion too, thats not where jungles abstraction comes from, although i think garage's jazzyness is definitley 80's jazz funk and Sade sophistication!
quite on point lol!
one thing about this forum is that ppl (no one in particular) always dismiss things out of hand..."no jazz influences in dubstep, there's too many wobblers, death to pubstep, booooo to bassline, I hate half step" etc or whatever but these things are so simple...
with any music there's gonna be stuff you like, stuff you hate and generally the great stuff you'll have to dig for...just avoid the stuff you don't like and listen or find the stuff you do (this obviously applies to any genre)
and then jam lol
To corner the market with the definitive brand name for jazzy dubstep? Remember kids, if you want a little jazz in your step, go for Jazzsteppa, original and best.yeah he's got releases on Hotflush :slanted:. i mean WHY would you call yourself that?
I reckon benga's doing more interesting things at the moment... do you remember all those really weird minimal but incredibly energetic, wonky 4x4 things n-type played at corsica the other day? they all had benga written all over them, and the more I hear that kinda stuff the more I think the two of those guys are developing in fairly different directions, although as you say the thing that links them is that they're both making aggressive, fucked music for raves
but was it still german geezers with dreads? 1001s one of the weirdest places ive ever been, was in there the other week about 6pm on a saturday and there were all manner of rocketheads who hadnt been to bed for days and a load of spanish students painting skateboards on the floor. a hasty retreat was made. what i think was what really pained me about the idea of the band is that it seemed to be another invasion of the beard strokers, the 'check me at WOMAD yo' acid jazzers to what is essentially machine music anchored in sound design. what was their actual setup? i suppose if it was synths/samplers etc reprazent style it wouldnt be too bad. but that name...
i think if they worked the trombone-laptop interaction more
Did anyone else just hear Sara Cox playing archangel by burial on radio 1 at 1230 in the afternoon? mad!
so is this a bad thing that quite obscure music is on radio 1 daytime due to the weight of its popularity and very little else?hardly a suprise - says it all, i'm afraid. bring on the deodorant adverts.

Heard Pete Tong play the 8bit remix and bill it as his "record of the year" a couple of weeks ago and Zane Lowe before that, but never thought it'd be on Radio One daytime. Doesn't show up on the playlist yet but with Zane, Tong, Cox and Peterson having all spun it I wouldn't be surprised if it broke onto the C list at some point.
Marc, stop being such a grumpy bugger!
