56) Es-Pee-Dee & DJ Distroi - Alphawave Track AA1 (BPSI E.P.) (1992)

jerky, Spasmodic rudeboy hardcore techno. an absolute gun tune, militant nut nut biz. the pinnacle of british brutalism. not for the faint hearted!

Sorry to disappoint Crowl but had to happen. one of the best tunes of 95. and hmmm. that rhythm. not something you heard in most so-called home listening techno at the time did you?

It's not even like the critics know the wavelength these guys are on, they just took mantronix and man parrish's machinic tendancies and injected them with a healthy dose of Rochdale paranoia.

Like, afx didn't grow up on black music. these guys did and if you let go of the rock intelligentsia hype, it becomes apparent. they don't even belong in the same bracket! just like Vatican Shadow has nothing to do with industrial techno. and I like AFX but he's a bit of a chimeric character. AE are scientists. big difference. they can get away with calling albums eps, and for that alone the critics are wrong. if you read interviews with them you'll see they are more in line with Dissensus thinking than most so-called 'idm boffins.'

but - but they're not music! well, neither was the best 80s electro, so...

As for this tune. everything is dematerialised apart from the bass drum sound. even the synth melodies don't sound like they're being played on a keyboard. signalling the death of midi. and that scraping sound just hits all my pleasure buttons in the right place. never has desolation sounded so soothing.

Fantastic list in general, but this is a great choice.

57) Janet Rushmore - Joy (Kerri Chandler choice mix)

Triple distilled house euphoria. be careful as one day you'll be about to go to sleep, contemplating deserting this technofeudal land. and suddenly it will hit you in the gut.

if you don't get it immediately, get a copy, pitch to +8 and mix in with some purist hard detroit techno. then it will all make sense.

Darned cockwombles.
This feels like the long-overdue anti-canonic expansion of the canon, a rerouting of the continuum. Starting points for exploration in a wholly different direction. Even managing to include and recontextualise a record I recorded off the radio when I was about 12 years old (Silver Bullet). Love it.

59) Jazz-N-Groove Presents Northbound Ft Moné - A Better Way (A Harder Dub)

hammered by all good london house djs worth their salt. hard not to bliss out to the simplicity of this.

60) Dem 2 - Da Keep

post-rnb. rnb gone cyborg. glitches and hickups. so-called 'idm' levels of complexity. of course like most things in the continuum it was El B who got lionised, don't ask me why as before he started making proto-dubstep his aaliyah garage is the stuff i always tend to stear clear of. simultaneously more paradise garage than the paradise garage but this could have only hatched in london. flutters so crackly and crinkly you could almost touch them. if we're going to talk about garage's rhythmic innovation, we have to start here and not the chart topping 2step because the dnb sceptics are right, as much as that stuff is delicious it's basically a poor mans jungle. you can't say that for this tune though.

Love this tune. Its like 'The Club' being torn apart in the event horizon of a black hole and then re-emerging into a hyper-dimensional alternate universe.

Beast of Burden
the way the craner section came after the al anfal section was horrifying.

it rendered all the electro soul hollow and plastic. all meaningless. i've never heard nihilism sound quite like it.

And at that exact moment I was thinking how much I loved this selection, apart from all the horrible industrial noise music!

Whatever you may think of the later so-called dubstep movement, this tune and in fine style deserve to be evaluated on their own merits. jazzual dub. a rare feet. the dubsteppers were right, this is basic channel meets garage. too bad that the underground dubstep movement after 2009 ended up fetishising Jamaica, long after that island had been hollowed and airbrushed out by the corporations and petty capitalist warlords.
