An article from Jan 13:

In summary, Russia’s defense enterprises continue to shrink in number; those that are left have constant problems with suppliers. The ability to address issues of attrition of equipment is becomes more challenging by the month. Today Putin can expend the resources and put the wear-and-tear on weapons system to deploy to the Ukrainian border and threaten the West. The question is whether that will still be possible five years from now.

It does seem like this could have been avoided if US and/or NATO better acknowledged how the alliance could be seen as a threat from Russia's perspective.

I think we in the US may have a harder time imagining this perspective. What if we weren't global hegemon, and there was an international alliance led by some other global hegemon, and this alliance spread to include nations at our border? I think it becomes more understandable in this light.

Yes, this war is definitely proof that NATO has no justification.

Yeah I'm not familiar with NATO's core missions, but I can see how, from Russia's perspective, it may indicate the metastasis of the western order.

And for the record, I doubt anyone on this board is generally more pro technocratic liberal world order than I am, as of now. But even I can start to sympathize with Russia here, whom I ultimately still place the blame on.
