follow-up in the grauniad (direct links are not allowed?) focusing on the use of AI to generate targets for israeli bombardment:
Difference being that the Abu Ghraib abusers took photos for their own amusement that were then leaked. If IDF soldiers are doing this stuff and then putting it on social media themselves for the lulz, that looks like a whole other level of hubris.Kinda reminds me of that big article in the Ukraine thread about the digital frontier of war. This straight up sadistic laughing seems a piece with that - makes me think of Abu Gharib.
I've been wondering this too. The article someone posted above said they'd struck 15,000 targets in the first few weeks of the war, which is presumably a small fraction of the total they've identified. But the Gaza Strip is slightly smaller than the Isle of Wight, so if it's that "target-rich" then you kind of think they might as well assume that every house, apartment, shop, garage or potting shed in the entire territory is "potentially" harbouring Hamas militants.sounds like a lot of bollocks that whole ai thing? like do the israeli even believe in that themselves? to me it just feels like the perfect excuse to carry out their genocide cos it's backed up by "objective" ai, or "objective" science, or "objective" technology
why do you pretend to be an idiotAll my friends are anti semitic and I always found it weird. Because I've almost never met a jew. They're really rare so how can you hate them? But its really engrained in people.
How about a transition period during which you buy non-Israeli hummus but donate £2 to the IDF for each purchase, gradually reducing this donation over time?I can't tell you how ashamed i feel . I need to make changes in my life and it has to start now
Are you saying this is worse than the video footage shared by Hamas from October 7th?Difference being that the Abu Ghraib abusers took photos for their own amusement that were then leaked. Not that this exculpates British antisemites, of course, but I'd add that I think this situation is found in many countries. There was a firebomb attack on a synagogue in Berlin not long ago.I think theres a latent antisemitism just beneath the surface in a lot of english people, especially posh ones. Its not really a nazi-style extreme hatred of jews but more like a slight distaste and distrust.
I reckon some of them even feel guilty for having these feelings and try to suppress them, but they cant really help it cos its deeply rooted in english culture.
When israel commits horrific war crimes it affords these english people an outlet to express this contempt for jews guilt-free. They also support palestinians for genuinely humane reasons. But at the same time part of them enjoys the fact its jews doing this.
Obviously they're right to oppose the war crimes and im glad they are, but that doesn't mean there isnt something else going on.
But it's politically unwise to mention this out loud much because of how much Israels supporters exaggerate and exploit antisemitism to continue justifying mass murder. Plus its hard to prove. But that's my feeling about English people and ive felt it all my life growing up in this country.
I'm just wondering for how much longer you can continue to lie even to yourself that Israel had some sort of moral high ground here. You've whatabouted yourself into supporting an ongoing genocide. Are you saying this is worse than the video footage shared by Hamas from October 7th?
Hamas are explicitly genocidal whereas the anti-Israelis in this thread have only found isolated incidences of anything approaching the same sentiment from the Israeli side.I'm just wondering for how much longer you can continue to lie even to yourself that Israel had some sort of moral high ground here. So you agree: how only a few harbour those sentiments against the wishes of the majority, hence the sacking! There are many Israelis, including those in the Knesset or high up in the military, whose attitude towards Palestinians in general is absolutely genocidal; the main difference between them and Hamas is that they have the ability to actually carry out a genocide. One of their MPs was recently sacked for suggesting Israel should literally nuke Gaza.
The bar has now descended so low that you're prepared to claim Israel is still the good guy here because it's not quite acceptable - yet - to suggest using nuclear weapons against a >98% civilian population. So you agree: how only a few harbour those sentiments against the wishes of the majority, hence the sacking!
Hamas would drop that bomb in a heartbeat. The bar has now descended so low that you're prepared to claim Israel is still the good guy here because it's not quite acceptable - yet - to suggest using nuclear weapons against a >98% civilian population.
