Not many dribble moves with fun names though most are just a description of the move like the between the legs dribble or behind the back

there's the shamgod

So this is like the crossover, but in that one you do it with one hand and change direction and then change hands, but this one you change hands and then change direction?

Are these moves hard to do? Can you do them? If you see some mates playing do they pull out these sorts of things every now and again?

Ya it's basically a crossover but instead of bouncing the ball over to one hand you reach across with your hand and yank it over. Its hard to do in a game because you are baiting your defender into going for your first initial dribble by leaving it dangerously hanging in space

I think dribbling is very hard I pretty much do none of these moves in a game except sort of a cross over which is really just something that happens naturally when switching hands

That makes sense to me... I can't really do a flip-flap on demand cos despite being invented in the seventies it wasn't really popularised around the world until Ronaldihno started destroying people with it (some people thought he invented it cos of that) and so I didn't learn it growing up, but sometimes I do something like it by accident.

Kinda like that round the world thing, when I was little it was unheard of (think I saw Scifo doing it once and we were all going woahh how is that possible?) so obviously we never learned it... now every five year old who plays football can do it.

Though was playing with a heavier ball the other day and it was suddenly a lot easier.

But isn't that a specific type of feint? I feel like you're splitting hairs here.

Yeah, probably is splitting hairs. I just feel feints all fall under the one thing. It's not a clear trick in the way doing something specific with the ball is. You just wiggle around in a loose sort of way. I wouldn't call Messi dropping the shoulder and dribbling past someone a 'trick' like I would an elastico or a rabona.

I agree with that... but the fact that they gave this one a name suggests to me that at least someone thought it was more than that.

It's funny though, the dropping the shoulder thing is possibly the most effective of all when it's done properly - you never really see Messi doing stepovers nevermind that hocus pocus shit or whatever but he beats a lot of people.

Right, but I think it's also too vague and loose to be a proper trick in the way a crossover or going through the legs is. I don't think Kareem's 'skyhook' is really a trick either. It's just the way Kareem would shoot.

Yeah, definitely. I'm sure people lose the ball more often than beat their man when they try the flashy stuff. Messi's approach is much more effective.

That's why I was asking Limburger about how much you see these things in normal games. Like if you play five-a-side there will be some guy with good feet who can do some or all of these moves but they're not always the best player. If they are done well and smoothly then of course they can work but it's totally possible for there to be someone who draws for all these things but never does them usefully. The important thing is to accelerate away when you have them off balance, otherwise even if you fool at first they can get back at you... doing this sort of thing statically doesn't get you anywehre.
