GRIME- breaking news, gossip, slander, lies etc

4hero talking about grime in echoes magazine:

"When we was making jungle, we was making it with older people’s music. We were sampling James Brown and the amen break which was some sixties church drumbeat, but we were open enough to see how we could merge the past and the future. I think that’s what’s missing from some of these kids. It’s not just about future. They need some past too. You tend to find a lot of riffs in grime are almost classical. So it’s like there’s a missing link somewhere. But then, if there was no pirate radio playing old jazz-funk when I was growing up, I’d probably have been in the same boat.”

um I dunno... check out Skepta's myspace page for his Mother's Day tune, with this great West african highlife sample - see also Rapid's homeage to Ghana in 'Motherland', which does the same thing.

Dizzee turning up to FWD was alot - espacially with JME, Skepta, D Double and Footsie all spitting too. I also managed to run into James from Hadouken to discuss those dissenting posts here...you'll be glad to hear he's been sleeping at night.

Meanwhile Wiley is getting slewed on the RWD forum after posting some strange messages (from his current NYC base).

Remember Roll Deep / Ruff Sqwad / Plastician and loads others this Friday at Dirty Canvas @ Rhythm Factory (I asked Raskit if he wanted to rejoin Roll Deep for the night, he didn't seem too interested)

In my opinion this paragraph goes some way to explaining why broken beat is so boring.

nice piece.

i feel like wiley is making a BIG mistake putting "letter to dizzee" on the LP.

don't only hardcore scene nerds care about that stuff?

after being out of the mainstream public's eye for 2 years, is that really the way to present yourself?

now every fucking article on the record will just compare him to dizzee. tho putting the albums out on the same day invites that anyway...

whatever, it's also a pretty lame tune and there are tons of better tracks on the Tunnel Vision series...

yeah this tune was probably a mistake... rest of the album sounds promising though. i know it's old but i REALLY wanted him to put the graveyard freestyle from creeper on there.

but listen up everyone... go and buy Trim's mixtape... he has gone MENTAL and made the best grime i've heard in ages. :D :D

I pressed up a few promos of a JME & Trigz instrumental EP on Boy Better Know. It includes Mayhem, which is fucking nang. Go and buy it. Saturday. £6 promo.

Thanks for that Logan; the tune on the E.P. that caught me was Trigz ' Showcase' though - now that's one to send for a dubstepper with...awesome riddim!

i heard that letter to dizzee track on rinse. it just makes wiley look like a bit sad, still worrying someone who clearly just doesnt give a shit about him anymore, sadly. wiley talks far too much about dizzee, while dizzee doesnt even care anymore. plus, hes done other tracks about this subject already that were better. he really needs to move on and stop talking about his ex-charge. its actually worse that its not a diss record but just another one of wileys heart to heart confessionals that are all very 'personal' but not really that affecting unless youre well, wiley. this might sound harsh but personally i dont really have high hopes for either dizzee or wileys albums.

seen gumdrops, i know what u mean. it is only one track tho. i think some of the true GRIME on there will just blow that kind of stuff out the water tho. you might find yourself skipping a track here or there but trust me it is a great album. can't speak for dizzee's.. personally i'm wondering if skepta's greatest hits is EVER going to come out. man's coming on like he's on a terence malick tip or something, sigh.

anyway mine and alex's hard work is finally up:

yup.

it's gotten to the point where i swear you could compile a mixtape of just wiley's tracks mentioning dylan...

mos dan, i am sure the album will be good, but it's def got some weak spots on it... i mean, i don't even know how much i NEED to buy it, as i have most of the good tracks on vinyl and/or cd already... so, if it's going to be full of tracks i already have, i don't wanna have to skip a track here or there... i already do enough of that w/ the tunnel vision series!

and yes, trim is looking sick... i was on his myspace last week and really impressed by all his tracks... his lyrics are on a whole nother thing now... i could def. see his mixtape breaking thru to non-grime fans, as it's weird in a very appealing way...

It's like Will's work is haunted by the twin ghosts of Dizzee and his ex-girl. They never seem more than a verse or two away. There are so many references, even if they are not explicit.

'You can do a tune with Bassment Jaxx, you're still a wasteman'
'Sometimes at night i get lonely, i need a wifey to hold me' etc etc.

Soul Food has the potential to be the best grime mixtape is a long long time, just hoping it lives up to my expectations!
