    Dubstep

Arrrgh this is a bit of a pain for me. The main forum went a bit stupid but its a place where I could get mixes - ruffage session archives, blackdown and dusk shows when rinse didn't get round to putting them up for ages etc etc. Also the event listings were good. In some ways grand gestures...

    "Mature ravers only"

Actually don't think Andy C is that old, mid 30s max. He was quite young when he started putting records out I reckon. On the other hand there are some jungle guys who were getting on a bit when things kicked off in 92 or whatever...some of the longstanding MCs are really getting on I think! I...

    timbaland/neptunes

This is very good. But this is the best thing Timbo ever did (imo) - the snare to end all snares! Try Again Aaliyah looks amazing in this vid too.

Blackdown remix of Geeneus feat Wiley, Riko and Breeze Knife and Gun

Latest Blackdown and Dusk rinse show I think. Some glacial synth biz on this one.

No dress code on the flyers I've seen.

    Funky/London/UK House

Wicked early-warp sounds on some of the tracks on the Mak10/Marcus set...one track that pitches a vocal around like Forgemasters.

    Burial "Untrue"

I remember at the time it seemed incredible and quite important that Dizzee win it - that seemed a real bolt out of the blue. But this being Burial's 2nd album and everything, I couldn't raise much enthusiasm. Slothrop you are right about short/long lists - something like the Samuel Johnson...

    Burial "Untrue"

Pretty much once every month or so. Its peerless music.

    Funky/London/UK House

Kodes played 30 mins-ish of funky at the start of his DMZ set last night. Sounded great - I think it took the crowd a few minutes to get their heads round it but everyone got grooving after a while...and you could hear the funky/bongo influence in the dubstep he played later on...that 'Bad' tune...

    FWD occasionally.

    Amen break and Golden Ratio

I don't know about all this golden ratio business, but the real joy of the amen and the main reason I think producers in jungle kept coming back to it is the way it was recorded and what that translates to in terms of sound when you compress and EQ it. Its like a magic box of frequencies waiting...

    London Classics 1991-NOW

More Internal Affairs! This is like London soul for me.

    Books about 20th Century Classical

Alex Ross's "The Rest is Noise" is good. Runs the gamut from Sibelius, Stravinsky, Webern to Boulez, Britten, Copeland and every one in between but also good on some of the lesser known US figures. Its for the general reader, but he seems quite good at convaying the ideas at work (e.g...

    London Classics 1991-NOW

    The Blackdown and Dusk album

Album is doing a lot...just listening to the Goodz track off the last show again...at the intro you think its going to be some sort of looped string hip hoppy thing, for about 1 second, then it just goes somewhere else completely...like Danny Weed or Wiley circa 2003 but in a dimension where...

Second Summer of Love goes Radio 2

This just shows Radio 2 understand who their demographic are (and what they were up to 20 years ago before the wife, kids, people carrier etc). In some ways its heartening from a public service perspective that they would do this sort of thing but then also profoundly depressing, though not...
