True, but a fit Milner could do the job better IMO.

yea the latest version i've seen has milner on the right and JC on the left. personally i would have had A. johnson on the right but oh well

also i bet sven is regretting having settled for that draw with portugal now. nothing less than he deserves. boring bastard.

What a game. It's a pleasure to see Ronaldo playing football rather than doing shit tricks or diving. His goal was great.

Excellent performance from Portugal. Coentrão was on fire. Fantastic runs down the left flank.

Kudos to the Koreans. They kept their composure and saw it to the end.

There are plenty of players in the England squad who are - technically and athletically - very, very good.

this is obviously true. saying the players are shit just makes me think you have never watched premeir/champions league. they are good enough to beat algeria and the us. why didn't they. i think its a fascinating question. why have nz done so well? pressure and the absence of pressure is a big part of it, playing for your mates and not being preening primadonnas is a part of it... its 100% mental. i mentioned the rugby on this thread to illustrate the same point. how does a team transform their fortunes in a single week. the rugby team did it. can the football team. i think the malaise is too deep but far stranger things have happened.

yep, saw that match, they could have had it. (neither team impressed, granted, but it was one of those where it was there for the taking, on either part to be sure. the Ivorians were probably a bit livelier but he just didn't throw enough caution to the wind. they came on a bit more in the second, but even still.)

the Rooney personal preference re positions and what J Cole being picked might represent are all good things for me.
definitely agreed wrt A Johnson, should have taken him instead of SWP, play either side and more skilful, what's not to like?

bravo Portugal.

heskey attempting to do that step-over, treading on the ball, half-falling over, and then shanking the ball into touch is the abiding image of england @ world cup 2010 thus far.

Its all expectations or at least perceived expectations. And its always been England's biggest handicap.

that red card on the Swiss dude was absurd, as well. another game decided by a ref. f**k it, I'm still pulling for the Swiss, w/their Congolese striker, Cape Verdean midfielder, Turkish everything. I'm feeling the one-man-down magic a la OZ.

i've just started to watch this, just from the hour mark, catch the last 30.

what's been happening? the very first thing i saw was a load of handbags in the Swiss penalty area. it sounds like it's been bad-tempered from what i'm reading elsewhere, anyone?

tons of bookings, one swiss red (backwards flailing elbow, absurd overreaction, you know the script), comedy ref and ALL Chile possession.

That Swiss fella (Berger?) just acting the cunt. God I hate that rubbish. A pox on FIFA for allowing it to go on.

fucking Roger Federer, come on Chile, avenge that Colombian tennis player bloke! South Americans unite!

i don't even know if somebody like a C Sforza in his prime would have much to do in this Swiss team, they are so incredibly packed and focused on the discipline he might seem like a pointless luxury.

wow i've never seen a player get booked for diving then actually give the referee pat on the back for the decision

and that swiss player hugely bottled that chance in the last minutes. right in the middle of the goal and cant even hit the target
