pretty much what the Swiss have to do now is beat Honduras (by 2 goals to be safe) to go through. Difference between 1-0 and 2-0 was them was pretty huge, given that it's very possible three teams will end up on 6 points. Chile will be kicking themselves for not making the extra man count more, as this means they have to get a result from the Spain match to be assured of reaching round 2. Which in turn makes Spain's position a little more desperate.

Dear oh dear, this World Cup is not turning out as expected...

i imagine tonight will tell us, but can you seriously see the swiss scoring more than 1 goal against honduras? i don't think they'll beat them myself.

lol at what just happened on the bbc. gary lineker so involved into chatting about the match with roy hodgson and lee dixon that he got a bollocking from his producer who wanted to get into another video about bloody england. probably unused to chatting about matches involving "small" teams

i know Valdivia had a blatant dive at the death and Mark Bright was moaning about Paredes' selfishness toward the end when he could have squared it for a potential 2-0, but very glad Chile won there.

Upson instead of Dawson for England is official on Wednesday.

FFS Capello! FFS. FFS.

fair point, though I think the Swiss will sneak a 1-0 (which will prob be enough), as it's doubtful Honduras will break them down.

Even so, with the final group games taking place at the same time, Chile-Spain is going to be a belter. Even if Hon-Swi is 0-0 for 85 minutes, both have to play as if the Swiss will win, which should make it a classic....seems doubtful that Chile's defence will hold vs Spain either, so it may be high-scoring as well.

i just worry a lot that chile will go out for not scoring enough against honduras, so despite being the most eyecatching team in the whole world right now, they'll get screwed over by that flukey swiss victory over spain.

yep, that's what i foresee happening sadly...

uruguay - south korea
mexico - argentina
england - serbia
usa - germany
holland - italy
denmark - paraguay
brazil - switzerland
portugal - spain

(england/usa could of course easily be reversed...)

Had a fiver on Chile 2-0. The last 20 minutes were hairy. So many chances! Despite their amazing work rate and organisation I'd hate to see switzerland go through over Spain or Chile. Would be brutal and just close down any nice attacking play from any team they come up against. I dare say if Behrami hadn't been sent off Switzerland could have nicked another victory from a nice set piece or some such.
Chile's youth showing towards the end - all the players (mostly) looking to do everything themselves in chances when there were a number of stone cold goals had a square ball been played or the like.
What a game though. Looking forward to tonights game, hopefully Spain give a better indication of what they can do..

chile - spain is possibly going to be the most exciting, ridiculous and eyepoppingly brilliant match of the whole tournament though. i simply cannot wait.

Yep, should be good, though i fear it will end in Spain's departure.

Wonder if Mark Gonzalez will manage to break his passing-the-ball duck for the tournament. His greed would shame Wall Street.

despite the last game against switzerland i can't see honduras pulling off a successful bus park for 90s minutes even if spain insist on playing through the middle again. got a feeling that xavi is really going to take the piss tonight.

credit to Honduras also, much like the other two Spanish speaking outfits, try to get forward and play attacking football at least.

there's no flat back sixes or ten behind the ball here.

will be fascinated to see if the Swiss change it up much against them, as if an - admittedly well out of sorts - Spain couldn't find a way past them, it's hard to see Honduras prospering so the usual Swiss MO of sitting back and trying to nick one sh/could be jettisoned in favour of positivity.

though i fear pigs might fly first.
