I won't disagree, but I'll give a more controversial point - American meddling is not always such a bad thing. Sometimes getting rid of the meddling has been much worse than the meddling itself. And sometimes the so called meddling has really helped and been welcomed and embraced, like in the case of Eastern Europe at certain points in history.
America is not just a purley negative force that turns good countries bad, I reject that point of view as such. It's more of a scapegot for all sorts shitty authoritarians who mae their own people live in a misery. And, , of course, it's a lefty catch-all explanation why any number of countries are such shitholes, since that - obviously - can't be due to countries own agency (in that cosmology that would be considered racism or some other -ism I guess) it must be machinations of Uncle Sam, right? Otherwise they would bloom and boom, and thrive like Venezuela.
Although communist lead to a miserable state of things everywhere it was applied, Allende - he would have been different, if not only for those bloody Americans... and so on and so forth.
