of course there are exceptions. places that have the designated corner for the oldies. in germany the average age in the average club is a lot higher. luke could walk in almost anywhere and not stand out. wouldn't have to stick to the corner either

I'm all for oldsters in the club (I've long harboured dreams of writing an article/blog/thread around 'No Club Scene for Old Men') but sometimes they really can be a horrible sight when you're off your face, dancing in front of you like the living embodiment of death itself.

I dunno, you get those kinda east end pubs where you have like four generations of the same family in there all day and loud music and stuff.

Yeah no generation gap in Essex. But they don't go clubbing together. They dress the same, smoke the same cigs, drink the same beer, share the same banter, but they're not raving together.

I was thinking about this at a wedding I was at on saturday - the DJs tried to play some house music and the oldsters weren't into it, so we ended up playing the same songs that have been played at weddings since the 1980s, I suppose. Michael Jackson, Toto, etc.

I was wondering when that playlist will fundamentally change. When the real oldsters die off?

I guess this is an issue related to growing life expectancy.

OTOH, is there any music as universally get-downable to as disco?

yes but the berlin value set is antithetical to techno. its prog house people discovering techno. the only people who get it are the basic channel guys and expats like objekt. otherwise all that norman nodge/marcel detmann stuff is beyond boring.

Yeah fair enough you did say dancing. I mean maybe they shuffle around a bit to the karaoke lock-in but it's not quite what you mean.

The playlist is already changing.last wedding I was at had a decent chunk of 90s r&b and General levy mbeat incredible.

For that reason I'm not sure it will die out as a wedding staple. Everyone knows it from going to weddings (if not elsewhere) so even if the oldies die off It Will Survive.

most of the parties/raves i went to as a youngster had loads of oldies, and were all the better for it. it is the countryside so different norms i spose, 39 wouldnt be considered too old at all tho. I went to a banging party recently and id say 40% of the crowd were over 50, all having it in a dark room to techno.

Yeah I'm 41 I don't give a fuck. Loads of older people everywhere I go as well as young too... but our generation never grew up and we still act like kids. I don't know if that's a good thing or not but it is how it is.
