"Autechre are BBC 6 Music's next artist in residence. Every night from today, December 9th, through December 12th, the duo will take over the airwaves for an hour from 11 PM GMT."

Hard to love this one.

It's my favourite. The two I'm not keen on atm are Quaristice and Oversteps. They're a bit dull and noodley in comparison to what came before and after. I'll probably listen to them again at some point and suddenly realise they're great though. That's what happened with Untilted and LP5.

I am going to listen to it until I love it because I inevitably will.

Why is it your favourite?

It's got this massive, thumping sound and the tracks have so much going on. The space they're pulling out of the machines feels deeper and more immersive than on a lot of the other stuff. I picture it as all blacks and dark purples and blues and greens. Something really rich and syrupy about it that I just love.

Was reading Gary Indiana's review of Bary Miles' Burroughs biography last night and at one point he says,

"Burroughs oversaw the finished products, but when the chance occurred to improve them he decided he was comfortable with the idea of variants, viewing his overall production as a canon unto itself."
Think that's how I feel about a lot of the artists I really get into. There's something that keeps pulling me in, I can explore the material almost indefinitely and it rewards the close attention. I could sense it at work when I read all those Burroughs books last year. What at first seemed like subtle variations - em dashes vs. ellipses, first vs. third person narration, the colour palette - really started to come to the fore and shape the experience.

The same goes for Autechre. The more I listen, the more I get out of it.

Got this on atm and they're just playing nerdy hip-hop. It's decent, but would obv prefer their own tunes.
