Luka DMd him to come wade in here hahaa.
I think everyone's pretty spot on here with their assessments, lol. Edburg is a really lovely guy and is effortlessly nice to everyone. Not sure how he became embroiled with KB but they seem to have fun together. KB was someone I used to be very suspicious of, then had some really interesting and productive convos with him. Went on his podcast, which I really enjoyed. But a lot of our private convos were mostly him sending walls of text related to obscure histories of corporate America. Innocuous and maybe even interesting from the POV of how the US is under the thumb of its corporations but he'd always present it like Pepe Silva. Then one day he started posting a load of homophobic shit after I tweeted support of this really excellent upcoming Repeater book about poppers and he went nuclear in my DMs cos there's six degrees of separation between poppers and Pinochet apparently. Haven't spoken to him since. Wasn't a very surprising outburst tho. He's like a lot of people online who have big followings. It does something weird to your brain, esp if you've got people always making snide comments and picking on you. You get paranoid. Sort of like how Owen Jones has gotten more recently. KB is always on the verge of his poster's brain being terminal. Meta nomad is not someone I see in the KB nexus — he despises him — but he's someone I really like too. We have opposite politics, but that's never gotten in the way of him just being a good friend. I think a lot about how I was very much struggling mentally a few years back and he was always one of the first people to reach out and just offer unjudgemental support. R.cam or logo or whatever, can't stand him. Don't know him, don't want to know.
I do think a lot of this is oddly American in nature. It's part of the whole "dirt bag left" thing, or at least adjacent to it. I heard someone the other day talking about Glenn Greenwald as that guy who seems to confound a lot of people because they don't know what his politics are from week to week but he's basically just a civil libertarian. I think that's the same for a lot of this hysterical American group of posters who just seem to post bad takes for a living. Same with Anna K from red scare and that crowd. None of them seem to like each other and their politics are very vague but that's what it boils down to. A lot of Twitter made more sense when I came at them from that angle.
Anyway, that's my 2c...
