I gotta be honest though, that's kinda some very basic scratching. Even I could do better than that, and my cuz def could.
I dunno, maybe they think it fits the song better, but still kinda makes me wince.

you need the ginger master with the Dubs, he’s their o.g voice as much as I love Ronnie

recommend you plough into a bridging musician like Seamus Ennis, the uilleann piper from co Dublin and musicologist from the war years, he saved so many ‘classics‘ from extinction and the Gaeltacht was his stomping ground

no Ennis, no Chieftains, Dubs, VM, Pogues et al, he is gold even Thirdform admitted this was the best thing he’d heard in years I mean just listen

I think I may have met him once. Not sure though. About 30 years ago I made some side cash PA’ing for a local NY cable show called ‘Out of Ireland’ met tons of musicians, politicians involved in the peace process. &c.
There was one Uillrann pipe player who was legendary. I thought it was the guy from the Moving Hearts, but not sure now. Christy Moore was there though.

Ennis is still ‘listen to everything’ quality of player, not advocating piracy but linkrot has removed selections of uploaded masterpieces complete with bios from YT, ie there are other ways of finding it involving keywords I dare not mention

even slightly hokey tv appearances have a wink to them, Dubs front row middle if you look for them and SE’s Gaelic is stronger than most even as satire, eg The Mad Goat “give us an A, boys” and off
