this was on the Oto thread but we can make a whole thread out of it. what i was saying there was that we are all, at this stage, highly sceptical of a diversity that incorporates all manner of ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, but doesn't preclude a total uniformity of thought, behaviour and ethics. this is the diversity you can find proudly displayed at facebook, google, the military industrial complex and so on. it is also the kind of diversity third has railed against in the techno scene and you can find the same heavily policed uniformity and conservatism in the art world, the publishing world and so on. it doesn't matter what you look like, or what identity you claim, provided you conform to the group guidelines.
which is in itself, inevitable and necessary to some degree. there are of course limits to true diversity, in as much as they butt up against group cohesion.
dissensus doesn't mean anything if we have more than a few token racists, or a few token indie boys.
