MOSCOW, Dec 17 (Reuters) - A top Russian general accused by Ukraine of being responsible for the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops was assassinated in Moscow by Ukraine's SBU intelligence service on Tuesday morning in the most high-profile killing of its kind.

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, who was chief of Russia's Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Troops, was killed outside an apartment building along with his assistant when a bomb hidden in an electric scooter went off, Russia's Investigative Committee, which probes serious crimes, said.

What are they saying? Have you got a link?

They're talking about the difference in coverage relative to the ethnicity of a suspect,

They're clearly describing something that does happen, but I just can't take it seriously as it feels like part of this desperate attempt to steer the discussion in any direction but the American insurance industry. All these commentators across the political spectrum trying to make it about his background and identity politics and the internet desensitising people to violence and all the usual crap.

Also, if anything, it seems to be his class background and good looks rather than his ethnicity which are drawing attention as people are wondering how a rich, good looking guy could throw it all away. You didn't see this level of interest in the white guy who tried to shoot Trump. Everyone just thought he was a weirdo and he disappeared into the ether.

I think stuff like this is why the Democratic party keeps losing elections, to be honest.

Perhaps that sounds glib, and perhaps I am being a bit glib here, but I think there's a tendency among progressive circles to insist that the "culture war" is something that only those bad, wrong, reactionary people are pushing, when actually it is bidirectional to some extent, and this is a good example of it.

I mean, I suppose it's inevitable that a Professor of African American Studies is going to see things through a lens of race and racism, but it seems weird to foreground that over the obvious economic aspect in a case that does not intrinsically involve race at all. How about talking to some of the black customers that this shitty company screwed over, most of whom presumably are not professors of African American Studies, and ask them how they feel about Mangione? It'd be interesting to see how many say "Good on him" or at least "Well he's got a point", rather than "He's only getting a free pass on social media because he's white."

Killing Thatcher by R Carroll is solid for plotting at forensic levels. Instead of a lone wolf, you have a myriad of killers operating both among The Ballyclava Boys and British intelligence

It identifies the acceleration of decision making within a chain of command - how, who, where, when, why - poking around places rarely explored as accelerating forces from multiple agencies, from policy to personnel, finally converge in an assassination attempt

We celebrate the gunpowder plot, still, but as surface veneer (catholic baiting, us, the honest Britannians?) yet it lacks a failed healthcare sector, $ commerce values no-one can quite compute within a society whose disposable income levels and parasitic health insurers defy belief, oh and then this fuckin bloke and his ‘hair’, marone, targeted a ceo in broad daylight? And he’s white? Cue feeding frenzy

Surprised it took US society this long to target its real enemies given how fucked US health insurance has been and for how long. People latch on to taboo transgressions most of all too, because they can create vicarious rupture points for bedlam to erupt where personal and collective asylum fails
